I am going to install my Jack TV antenna this weekend. My coach has no antenna at all. This antenna was recommended by a few on this forum and it looks good to me.

My question is this. Should I install this so that the INTERIOR base mounts to the plastic liner, or move it aft so that the INTERIOR base mounts to the headliner. I am trying to remember where my old fold up was mounted on my Palm Beach, but just can't remember. It would make sense that this is NOT mounted to the plastic headliner as that seems pretty flimsy. Comments? Snide remarks are welcome, too.

As the front and rear caps are plastic, I think it would be best to mount it on the ceiling.

I've been wondering if I should mount one further back on the coach (behind the front AC unit and in front of the rear vent hole), but don't know if there would be any performance difference.

My batwing is mounted in the headliner behind the driver's seat. No plastic was harmed in the installation of that antenna.

Hello,

I also want to fit a new TV antenna. On my coach there seems to be TV cable running all over the top of the roof, along with screws/brackets, holding the cables down. Some of those screws have caused leaks !!!.

Do not know if you intend running cables around the roof.

If it was me i would not run cables all over the roof,
you just have more leaks to worry about. It is possible to run cables inside from the antenna, along the channels etc, although you may not want to do that at this point.

My plan is fit a new antenna, on the metal roof section towards the front, take a single cable off that on the inside, feed into 12V pre-amplifier 12V, then run cables for bedroom or kitchen whatever.

Just thought it may help you in your venture.

cheers and beers

PS personally i would NOT mount on the plastic roof parts.
If you catch a low branch or something it may try and rip your roof off. Less chance of that if its mounted on metal, likely the antenna would try and break before the roof !!!

cheers and beers

Hello again.... Sorry for 3 posts !!!! Sad

I will get ex-communicated !!!

Between the Plastic liner and headliner, there is a roof strut that runs left to right. I did take a picture for you but cannot post it right now. Mine is screwed in there in the recessed part. The radio antenna connection is also fitted in there.
I believe that this is also on the metal roof section, where the plastic front roof panel meets the metal roof panels...

I would think that may be the best place, also you could run cable down that channel below the tv antenna.

cheers and beers.

hello,

Ok i managed to get the pic for you link follows.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=41659&title=tv-antenna-placement-reve&cat=22

The white section starts to go into the cockpit.
If you notice there are 2 metal rods hanging down.
Thats where the current antenna sits on top of the roof.
Notice the 2 screws that are placed into the roof strut.
Thats stronger there, and i would put your new one in that way.
also you have a channel going left and right you can run a coax cable along.

Let know how it goes for ya.

cheers and beers

Steve, bear with me here.....but I am assuming that metal channel is running ACROSS the coach but on further review it might be one of the channels that runs lengthwise, alongside the opening for the forward vent????? If I knew this, and which way your camera was pointing, it would sure help out a dumb guy.

Thanks.

The white piece you see in the photo, is the plastic cockpit ceiling. You can see that channel basically separates the cockpit from the rest of the coach ceiling going backwards.

cheers and beers.
