Hey everyone,

I am working on getting a TV set up in the GMC. I remember a setup at
a rally in Bisbee AZ where there was a steel tube mount behind the
passenger seat does anyone have this and how was it obtained or was it
built. Does anyone have any other great ideas for a TV mount fitting
anywhere from 32-40 inch LED TV? Any help would be great.
Oh yeah if anyone has a 3 way fridge they want to sell I am
interested, if not where is a good place to get the best deal? Thanks
for any info you might have.

John,

When I was at Jim Bounds a few years ago he had installed at least a 32" in
the overhead area in the cab. Dropped down remotely. Pretty neat.

If you are going to do any dry camping you may not want to go too large on the TV as the larger ones take more power to operate. Dan Gregg had a good suggestion on how he found the ideal TV by checking the current draw on various TV sets at Walmart before he bought. If you will always have hookups go as big as you can afford and can fit .

I have used PPL out of Huston on my SOB for accessories.
My mistake I ordered a two way refrigerator through a local RV supply
vendor and could have gotten the same refrigerator for $400.00 cheaper at
PPL.

John,

That was my coach you saw at the Bisbee rally. I copied that mount from another Jetsetter, Brian Bowden. It is made from a couple of pieces of 3/16" plate, one is the base that is bolted to the floor, and the other is cut to fit an elbow type TV mount that is bolted to it. The other components are a piece of 1" black pipe, and a 3/4" rigid conduit elbow, and a 1/2" steel tube brace, all welded together.

I will try to take pictures tomorrow for you. I spent most of the day today re-installing my newly repaired MSD ignition control box that failed a couple of weeks ago, on the way home from Phoenix. Getting ready for my annual sand dune trip next weekend.

That's right Carl I remember, you had some really cool ideas in your
coach well now y wife and I live in Washington state. Have done quite
a bit with the RV just a few more things inside I need to do then I
will focus on the mechanics. Drove it from Tucson to Washington with
only a few problems mostly fuel evaporation. But now were up here
won't have much of that I hope. Yeah a few pictures would be great the
Idea of a TV electrically coming down from the ceiling of the cab
sounds fantastic but also sounds expensive. So we will see hope all is
going well in Tucson. I'm sure you will hear from me on the web as I
continue my goal for our coach. Thanks again Carl

John,

Congrats on the successful move. My sister lives in the Seattle area, so we get up there from time to time. We will miss having you and your wife here in Tucson.

I just put together an album of photos of my TV mount:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showgallery.php?cat=5956

It was pretty simple to make and has served us well for about three years. I added the inverter and outlets last Janyary, but so far, they are doing the job.

I have a 74 GlacierX, the X meaning it does not look like one anymore after 3 PO before me. I have the frig on the curb side, to the rear of the entrance door. The wall between the frig and the wall you see ( if the door has been cover over ) has enough room for a flat screen tv, the sat receiver, the new frequency converter for free tv and maybe a DVD. lol
I made the opening wider and left some wall where the Sat Rcvr and other stuff hangs and gets tucked behind the wall.

I have done a lot of research and experimenting with the antenna for the new freq receiver, you know the one every one had to buy last year when the regular VHF channels were shut down.

There is an antenna on the market called FRACTAL. It was born, I am told for the military and now it is down to our user level. It is small, 4 elements are about the size of a page of paper and it is flat so you could easily store it when traveling.

It is also very light so you could use an expanding paint roller handle to hoist it up and clamp to your ladder.

In my experimental use, ( you make the FRACTAL yourself, just do a search on the web )

This is a simplified version and can be made with copper/aluminum or coat hanger wire, be sure to solder everything.
http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-a-fractal-antenna-for-HDTV-DTV-plus-/

There as another that has more bends but I can't bring up the address.

I found it to be very sensitive and very directional. If you doubled up on the elements, the signal will grow stronger, limited only by the actual strength being sent out. One thing I did find with the new freq is it tends to wander but for travel and the person that wants a REALLY SMALL ANTENNA to put up his own antenna, this seems to be the one to look at.

I had tried my hand at a omni directional but with more experimenting, the antenna became much too large for travel use.

Take a look at the fractal antenna if there is any interest
