Do solar controllers maintain batteries as well as my Progressive Dynamics Charge Wizard? Do they only charge as needed and somehow waste the extra current, maybe even send the "desulfate" pulse from time to time?

I had once asked if the panels should be connected through the PD charger. A recent thread got me thinking about this. The Charge Wizard only desulfates after being connected 24 hours to AC current (I think) and of course the solar panel doesn't produce electricity at night!

Having a constant charge on the batteries might boil them, or otherwise reduce their life span.

Thanks,
