I keep reading about how the belts supplied by the various manufacturers are getting narrower. I found a web site that sells v-belts and has a cross-reference page for Dayco, Gates, and NAPA belt part numbers (they sell v-belts that match them all at great prices). They list a series of NAPA v-belt part numbers that have the same lengths but are 17/32 wide instead of the standard 15/32.
I know of at least one GMCer that has used the wider belt with success. He substituted a NAPA 25-9610 for the 25-7619 A/C belt and said it works great. The other numbers, according to the site, are the 25-9570 for the standard 25-7570 alternator belt and the 25-9450 for the standard 25-7450 water pump & PS belt. The cross reference page is autobeltsonline.com/autobeltcrossreference.html - has anyone else tried the wider belts? Anyone tried buying from that site?

I have often thought about going slightly wider but have never tried it because I've never had a problem finding the correct width belts. I also have never broken or worn out a belt on a GMC.
Since you have three belts running in parallel across the crank pulley and the various other pulleys, I would think that you would need to change all of the belts to wider ones at the same time to keep them from fighting each other. But what do I know.

I wish I could say I never wore a belt out. On the first coach one broke, got tangled on the second and broke it. The inner belt remained. They both wrapped aound the fan clutch, and were beating the hatch. What a noise. Also whacked the litle oil pressure tube for my real oil pressure gauge. I cut the belts out. It was night and I didn't see the oil tube. Lost oil. Luckily I also had a vacuum hose cut and was fiddling with the plug wires because it was idling funny. Finally started to go on and just started rolling when I heard the litters clatter. Oil all over the side of the coach, and toad. A real mess.
So, don'y let your belts get too old. Mine looked good. Looked.
That engine kept running and running and still is.
