Those working with electric cooling fans, and perhaps other temperature
control projects, should read this article:
http://autospeed.com/cms/A_112617/article.html

The presented digital temperture gauge/controller is available through eBay
for about $26 and appears to be a pretty high quality device. To control a
high current device an external relay will be necessary, but that's a
trivial expense.

Mac,

As stated in the article, seach eBay for “DC 12V Digital Temperature
Controller Thermostat Câ€

If you replace the final "C" with "F", you'll find the Farenheit version.

There's also a whole line of instruments and controllers from Auber Instruments http://www.auberins.com - they have great prices on the controllers, thermocouples, solid state relays, etc.

I've used their devices on gas turbine control systems, my lead-melting furnace, beer homebrewing equipment and a few other things. The price is right and the support is great too - it is a small company and you can talk directly to the person/people that designed the gear if you need to.

I have no affiliation with them other than as a happy customer.
