eAssist. This sort of 'Hybrid' that makes sense to me. Hybrids don't do any good on the highway against constant road load and I never thought draging around all that extra stuff and big expensive (earth unfriendly) large format battery packs made sense. Just a small regenerative package always made sense to me and now they did it. GM first they say.

GM may be first using that technology on a road car, but Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS) has been used in F1 for a few years now.

Porsche have also been using it on a race car too I think.

Unfortunately, KERS is still in the developmental stage.
Jensen Button had to keep resetting his during last weekend's race at Abu Dhabi.
Now if we could develop a generator/electric motor system, we could have all wheel drive.

I can.. but I'd rather say 'electric supercharger'.  But, the electricity gots to come from somewhere.  The turbocharger uses what would otherwise be wasted exhaust heat.  Although either way I just as soon not boost an engine which wasn't designed for it... especially one in an application which stresses it more than it was designed for already.
