I would like to put the word out on a coach located nearby in Lakeway, which is west of Austin. It shows up on Austin Craigslist a lot. It's a 23 ft BirchHaven and has been sitting up for some time and is in full squat mode. Anyway, I called this guy Dave and he gave me the address and said feel free to go look at it. He wanted $5,000 for it and I think it's worth $500 with about a $4500 tow bill from where it is sitting in the woods, chock full of animal poop and mildew. And it gets better, the place it's at is on somebody else's property (who used to be his friend.) I chatted with the landowner for 10 minutes or so because we both own land adjacent to a large conservation area, and we got along great. He sure bristled at the mention of the guy and his GMC and said since the Craigslist ad was up some things had started missing from around his place. The day after I went out there I got an email from this Dave guy saying a large amount of copper pipe/wire was now missing and since I was the only person to actually go out and look at it, logic (?) dictates that I took it. And if I brought it all back by the next day the police would not be called. Needless to say I called the police myself. Just a somewhat long winded head's up. (and yes, I am still furious about the whole ordeal). I regret not knowing the importance of TZE number tracking at the time or I would have gotten it for the records. Here is the ad:

I sent him a kind of innocent query... let's see what he has to say.  Since I bought a running Palm Beach and drove it home for substantially less than he wants, I'll skip doing business with him.
From your report and his response, one might think he bagged the copper.

Thanks for the "heads up" John. I am sorry you got involved with someone like that. Not the "norm" for our group. There are several club members in your area if you need assistance with a coach.

A word of caution about a GMC for sale in Amarillo, TX also.

I bought it on eBay. The guy assured me that is was ready to drive back to East Tennessee(1100 miles).
My Dad and I drove to Amarillo and the coach was in reasonbly got shape inside and out but it wouldn't run worth a f@rt.

It died 4 times and struggled to restart in a 4 mile test ride and was boiling over. The guy started to drive it to his mechanic and it wouldn't make it 3 miles. AAA had to tow it in.

They couldn't get it running by noon the next day so I said forget it, and we drove home empty handed.

Then the dude refused to return my $500 deposit. eBay Purchase protect refunded my $500. Whew!

I wasted $600+ on the trip.

Beware.

Rick, a valuable lesson learned. 600 bux for the trip is a good tuition for the class. Others may benefit from you telling us about your experience. Bidding on a GMC on ebay is risky buisness unless you have someone check it out for you.

Rick,

It would be helpful if you would please provide some specific info:

Guys name
Address
Phone number
Details on the GMC

This will prevent anyone else from having to go through the same thing you did!
