On my last trip from Oregon to the GMCWS and TI rally by way of Arizona, we stopped at a resort just north of Phoenix. (New River AZ)

I noticed a Royale under a shelter... It looked "interesting" and being lived in but looked like it hadn't been on the road for quite a bit.

Talking to the owner, Ed Larid, Seems this coach was his third GMC coach. He has had one for most of the time from the 70's. He brought out a stack of pictures. I recognized one of the coaches in the pictures and told him where I had seen pictures of it. As a non-Internet person he was very surprised. Not having any other method, I took pictures of his pictures. I have posted them in separate albums under a single album found here:

<http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showgallery.php?cat=5933>

I also took some pictures of his current towd. Super charged and nitrous injected... looks like it has more power than his coach!

Ed tells me he used to be active in the Saguaro Jetset club and might get back into it. He also tels me he has a transmission built by Danny Dunn that was shipped to Arizona years ago and placed in storage. He says it has an early Toro final drive one it. He wants to sell it but needs to check on the status of it.

I would type more but need to get ready for work.... Crying or Very Sad

That's really cool, thanks for taking the time to get the pictures of
his pictures posted. I see in one of the pics a shot of his first
coach's cockpit roof and it appears to have two skylights in there with
the centerline overhead console between them. I am interested in seeing
if that is feasible for our coach. and if anyone has done it themselves.
Then I want to find out if they loved it or regretted it.

Mike,

Doesn't it figure someone as friendly as you would find another friendly soul to share some time with and talk about GMC Motorhomes! Wow! so Ed was the fellow with that coach and matching boat. What happened to his first coach - the Birchhaven - did it roll or was it caught in a tornado?

I like this guy's ingenuity. That step from a truck held together with big old pipes is great! With 3 turn signals on each side of his grille he could cascade them up or down if he wanted to get fancy.

Thanks for posting these. You meet the nicest people in a GMC Motorhome! Imagine finding another 3 timer.

Mike,

Thanks for those photos from an ingenious owner.

What happened to the first coach, rolled?

If the Nicholls' experience left any question in my mind, those photos
settle it: I WILL NOT be attaching shoulder belts to the upper body
structure.

He told me he rolled it. He wasn't wearing a seatbelt and ended up "in the back." Banged up aa bit (brused) but not really hurt.
