I spent some time looking over Craigslist for GMC's. Seems to be a lot more than last time.
I tried something new and sorted them by price... I doubt I'll do that again. I also added notes on a few.
If you are looking for a project or parts coach, start at the top. Rolling coaches are most likely found lower down...
Notice there are people wanting to buy. Two want 16.5 inch tires/wheels.

A note on this coach:

I looked at this coach over a year and a half ago. I really think it was a 1974 coach, I know I took some pictures of it, including the TZE. I'll have to find the pics.
Anyway... At that time the coach was sitting behind the owner's grandson's house. The grandson had lived in it while building his house. At that time it has dirty and dusty and hadn't been used used in a while. If the pictures in the ad are more current, it was been pulled out and cleaned up quite a bit.
This coach interior is highly modified but by someone who knew RV's and what he wanted. (If I understand correctly the modification was done in the mid to early 80's.) This has a rear bath with a full stand-up shower in the drivers side rear corner. It has a Honda generator (IIRC) in the curb side rear. The kitchen is across from the door just a little rearward than in the standard GMC. It has and angled section like the rear bath Birchavens. Across from the kitchen, next to a "moved window" is a single wide dinette (wood based) that makes into a single wide bed. The couch behind the driver is a sofa bed and pulls out into a (queen size?) bed. There is a small propane tank for the refer and stove under the coach on the drivers side. (I never found it, but was told it was there.) I think the only heat is electric.
He did do a few mistakes, including the method of sealing up the windows "moved" during the interior changes. What looks like an other wise nice paint job has cracked where the windows had been removed and sealed over. (This has proven almost impossible to do without a seam.)
This is a very interesting coach for one or two people who do not boon-dock very much. As it was intended by the modifier -- I had a very long, and interesting, phone talk with him.
I am not sure if the coach has changed hands or not... or if it has been used after I saw it.

What search tool did you use? How much work was it?
It's a sad trend. Several of these will be parted out, or worse, scrapped.
If the recession ever ends there will be a big hole in the inventory.
There is some small thing we could do.
I have contacted people on craigslist about their ads for Revcons and some GMC's
I've posted photos, offered advice on what to include.
I've seen people include my suggestions, i don't know what good it ever did.
But we could craft a page on how to sell a GMC and then people could contact sellers in their area and offer a link.
For the most part, these ads are not written in a way that will create a new member of the cult.
There should be something there to draw in people who have no prior knowledge.

The opinion I am about to offer, I would have considered a heresy several years ago, but times have changed and so should we.
The facts are quite obvious to us all, there are too many GMCs for sale, consequently prices suffer. The rule of supply and demand won't be denied.
Many newbees think the "buy it cheap and fix it up" is the way to go, only to be discouraged by the expense and effort and put it back on the market......again. Result; another unhappy GMC owner experience as well loss of money.
Those GMC MHs that have not been run for years, need significant repairs and would require significant resources to bring to safe, reliable levels of operation should end up as parts for other GMCs.
There I said it, "part them out", they become a parts source for others and get the poor examples from continuing to drag the market down.
There are plenty of examples of reasonably good GMCs out there. I hate the thought of scrapping out a GMC as much as anyone, but it appears the right thing to do at this point in the GMC MHs life cycle.

That only pushes the demise of the GMC a little further down the road. We need to actively engage the "newbies" and keep as many coaches in the pipeline as possible if we hope to encourage those who will carry on after the Jims and our other vendors retire.
For those who enjoy the GMC, the market value is largely irrelevant as few should expect to recoup any investment. But if we don't keep the market from dwindling to the point where vendor parts and service become so expensive or non-existent, we will have doomed our own vehicles in the process.

When I see something interesting I open it in a new tab.
When done searching I "bookmark all tabs." Then I can get a list of the bookmarks from the "Bookmark Library" (With Firefox: Show all bookmarks) that can be cut and pasted into other apps. I normally just paste the list right into a message, but this time tried putting it into a spreadsheet to add prices and notes. (so I could sort by price.) Then I cut and pasted into the message and had formating issues... The whole "sorting thing" seemed to take more time than it was worth.

Agreed.
This is one of the reasons I carry copies of the brochures found here: <http://www.gmceast.com/lifestyle/gmcers/>
JimK printed out a bunch of them (set up to be rather generic in the "My GMC" section) for the TI rally. While there didn't seem to be that much interest on Saturday, the public took all of the brochures we had on Sunday. (And the few I found crumpled up in the bottom of a drawer.)
Note to JimK: Do you think it would be a good idea to send a few brochures with each order you send out? That way your customers would have them to hand out the next time someone is asking about the coach in a parking lot or something.

Keep in mind that there is a difference between asking price and selling price.
(It would be nice to have a list of selling prices.)
