Copper washer would probably never cause a problem but still should not be placed between terminal and cable end, place it between cable end and nut.
Good cable ends are tinned and when tightened against a terminal the tin creates an airtight sealed connection that is less likley to corrode and create a high resistance. Just a little tidbit I learned while getting my marine electrical technitions certification.

Adding a switch to the line to provide a total
disconnect would not be a bad idea, either!
Blue Sea is the brand I have for total disconnect
in my small boat. It is rated at something like
350 Amps, if I recall.
Not adequate, I suppose, to switch a battery that
is used for a motor starter, but should do just
fine for any expected drain for a house battery.
