One of the best things I did while my engine was out in '98 was to cover the
entire cockpit floor, steps, and risers with 1" fiberglass duct board (dense
fiberglass board covered on one side with aluminized kraft paper). It's
very fire and heat resistant as well as being a good sound insulator -- at a
very cheap cost, about $35 per 4'x8' sheet back then, from HVAC suppliers.
There are probably better products for some of the features, but surely at
much higher cost. Aside from some fraying of some edges where I didn't do a
good job of sealing them with aluminum foil duct tape, it's still in very
good condition -- looks almost new.

Ken - how did you attach the duct board to the coach?
I was thinking of using galv drive screws and fender washers. Any other ideas?
