I'm starting a new topic so this doesn't get lost in the highjacked thread I originally started that has morphed into a propane tank discussion.
I got the pictures posted for the front clip (subframe) removal.

It sure looks different sitting out on the floor than it does when it is under the GMC.

Yeah and now that I have it out I'm thinking about what else I should do besides the engine.

Sounds like project creep to me. My usual problem when I start a GMC project.
I wonder how much more difficult (or less) this is than pulling the engine out the top?

Steve,
One of the best things I did while my engine was out in '98 was to cover the
entire cockpit floor, steps, and risers with 1" fiberglass duct board (dense
fiberglass board covered on one side with aluminized kraft paper). It's
very fire and heat resistant as well as being a good sound insulator -- at a
very cheap cost, about $35 per 4'x8' sheet back then, from HVAC suppliers.
There are probably better products for some of the features, but surely at
much higher cost. Aside from some fraying of some edges where I didn't do a
good job of sealing them with aluminum foil duct tape, it's still in very
good condition -- looks almost new.

I see that the alternator is on the right side of the engine, is this a 403?

Steve,
Well done.
And yes, lots of additional projects you might be tempted to undertake while it is out...
you can never go too far...

Sir: since the fuel pump is on the right I believe this is a rare alternator set up for non AC coach.

Creep hell - it is turning into project runaway. Old House Journal called it sort of project creep the "mushroom effect" as in the expanding cloud from a nuclear explosion.
I figured it would be easier to pull the clip since I already had over 1/2 of the things disconnected that had to be disconnected. And I had to build something, a dolly or a gantry to do the job. Seeing as the floor at the side door is not very wide or level and the floor at the front is wide and level I went for the "out the front" approach.

Well yeah you can go too far. I wanna drive this somewhere before I die. However I have called the rust/paint strippers and also have a recommendation for a dip coating process that will coat the frame external AND internal. I've also had an offer from someone who has access to glass beading equipment for the various brackets and such. Also I sent a trans ATF sample to Blackstone Labs. And RayE (the local final drive change expert) has pointed out how easy it would be to put in a 3.70 FD. (As he stated, "look how easy it would be to get at ALL the bolts".

DUCT BOARD - I remembered the discussion but could not think of the name of the product. I am planning to do this and I ordered 3 kinds of insulation board from McMaster-Carr, one of which is as you describe. Now that I have a name I'll search locally and see if I can find it cheaper. M-C did have one interesting product, a 1" thick mineral wool board good for 2200 degrees. It is available with a wire mesh on one side, two sides or without. That stuff, in some form, with a metal cover, is going above my exhaust system all the way to the back.

Nice job!
Not only is it out in the open, it's at waist height! THAT'S BRILLIANT!

Well the height is just a byproduct of the height the entire coach is at. It sure does look a lot better that way rather than looking up at it from the floor or hanging over the hatch.

Way cool! This eliminates the rather dubious worry of a 1500 pound engine and trany falling to the ground or on you.
My question is how many levels of the cribbing jacks? 10? Can't really get a clear shot to be absolutely sure. Also it would be great if you could give the dimensions and a simple drawing layout of the "clip coaster".
Again, great job!
