Using the checklist from Rob M., I looked for the trans vent. If it is on the drivers side rear on the side above the pan and behind the linkage, a PO has replaced it with a threaded plug. I should replace this with the proper part, right? Then run away from exhaust as recommended. Where could I get one? Thanks.

JimK has (had?) the original GMC part for the transmission vent that allows you to connect a overflow hose to the vent.

People have also used a 90degree rubber connector to attach a hose to the vent after pulling off the top cap.

Either method should be preferable to having transmission fluid spill out onto hot exhaust pipes and start a fire.

NO. That is not the vent. That is a port for testing the pressures in the transmission. Leave the plug in there.

The vent is on top of the transmission, about in the center. That would put it right under the step area and it is a bit hard to reach it.

Go to Gene Fisher's site to see pictures and writeups on the vent and hose, etc.

If you can't find the fitting locally you might check with Manny as he might have them.

That is not the vent.
That is a pressure port.
The veent is located almost at the top of the transmissinon.
We stock them, but will take some skill to pull off the old and
install new when on the coach.

Tom, that tickled me too. But, he is right. Not everyone is going to get that darn thing out and the new one back in, with the thing in the coach. There is little room to work there. Having a "little skill" pretty much leaves me out. Glad I have mine in. Got a spare one that I have tried to sell at two conventions but no luck. Jim has a lot of them in stock.
