Last night I discovered my GMC had been broken into. I keep it at a fenced mini-storage. Called police and spent the evening filing a report.
This morning when I called the lot they checked and found five other rv's had been broken into. One owner lost a flat screen tv, dvd and receiver. They stole a Coleman camping generator from mine. Thankfully, they ignored my Ragusa screen door (still in the box).
My coach is an early 73 with the replacement stainless plate on the door. I don't know if this makes it easier to force open.
The outside door skin has pulled away from the inside -- could this be bonded with body adhesive?
Anyway -- adds one more thing to the list to-do.
I will no longer trust the lock to protect anything of real value.
This evening I used a large rubber mallet on the door and managed to get it straight enough to close ok and even lock. Hope it unlocks tomorrow!
Something for others to consider if you leave valuables in your coach and it is vulnerable.

Hated to read this. Bummer!
Did the storage lot have cameras anywhere on the property?

Wally, Dan, Byron,
Thanks for the comments..
Dan, here is the Coleman generator they took -- nice little unit, had less than 10 hours use.
http://goo.gl/elihs
Byron,
Yes, the mini storage has limited access gate, code required for entrance and exit. No public access from 10pm until 6 am.
And the lot has a number of cameras that record the lot. The rv storage area however doesn't show up real well after dark. They were reviewing the tapes -- it seems the break-ins must have occured since Saturday. Anyway, I am somewhat doubtful that they will find anything -- but maybe.
Thanks again.

I hate when jerks have to be so destructive to feed their meth habit or whatever. My 73 has the same cover plate, but nothing worth breaking in for. Of course, they wouldn't know that until the damage was done.

Well, some 25 odd years ago, I had a plant atop Red Mountain in an abandoned TV station. I learned, you can't reform a junkie or a wino, but you can convince them to leave your place alone. Not P.C., but effective.

Nothing will stop a thief that wants to make something that is yours, his.
There is a lot you can do to prevent loss, just nothing to absolutely keep
it from happening.

The plus.... no one on 'our side' got hurt.
I had my door apart last week Did brown hammertone paint on the metal part inside, got all the trim screws out with a hammer impact driver one way or another and replaced the Faux wood masonite wood with an 1/8 sheet of Blatic birch and Watco Danish finished it. All new speed clips and black trim screws and lubed the lock mechaninsm. I too think it is adhesive, but that would be under all the spray foam so you can't see it. Might have to scrape out the foam, readhesive and then refoam. My new GM credit card came so I cut the 3/4" square blue GM logo from the old card and gooped it to the inside edge of the door.... like the GM Mark of Excellence, but small enough to fit on our thin door. I think it looks subtle and cool. (Ok others are as crazy as me on this board... admit it)

Admitting it is the first step to the cure. I'll NEVER admit I have a GMC Motorhome problem! ;-)

This is terrible news. I was so sorry to have read of your break in.
I am concerned about this type of thing but what can one do?
The economy is terrible and even people that would not do this might look that way.
Have you watched Bait Car? Have you noticed the age of the people getting caught? A lot of younger folk and quite a few first timers.
That other show, Operation Repo also seems to have its finger on the pulse of the economy as well.
I considered an alarm but when in storage, I have battery drain concerns. That was why I added the 55 watt Solar panel.
I don't think a blaring alarm would really excite these thieves but if it could be loud enough to make their ears hurt, maybe they might think twice.
Its a sign of the times but so so sorry to hear one of the group was involved in such a thing.... glad you and your family are safe.
