Netters
When my old air compressor in my shop failed, I shopped long and hard for a
replacement. (For those who know me, it would be for the cheapest!)
Eventually I selected and ordered and it has arrived...sort of. It's in
Dartmouth not Antigonish.
My question is:
To transport, I assume it can be laid on it's side IF the break in oil is
drained...is this Correct?
Thanks guys

Mike,
I believe compressors are shipped "dry" these days. Not sure if it's for
environmental reasons or shipping cost.

What Patrick said is my only experience, and I have gone through a few. In
most cases, the highest sustained CFM rating at a specific operating
pressure is what you should be using to determine which compressor will work
best for you. For a home shop, 130 PSI @ 12 CFM (sustained) is a good
choice. Lowes has a beaut that they put on sale every now and then.

Thanks guys..
I ordered and will be picking up a 60 gallon twin/cast iron, 40PSI:13.4CFM
and 90PSI:11.5CFM
Better than the previous one and I painted several cars with the old one, so
this should do the trick for my needs !

Yes Laddie, a Scotsman I am!!
The deed is done Rob so advise is no longer being accepted, unless its a
positive statement about the thing <VBG>
It has the name Sanborn on it but unless it's part of a coffee brand, it
could have been made anywhere by anyone.
What I know is that it has a warranty and that bit parts are available at a
very reasonable price and that I don't have to buy a whole compressor motor
if only a flapper valve goes bad ( for example).
I don't have the model...it was a 'Special" buy <g> but they are sold
everywhere in Canada.
I gave the numbers in my message to Steve...
If you approve, you can borrow.....bring truck !!

Mike,
Well I got the Scotsman bit right and from my experience so did you with your choice of compressor!
I have 220VAC 60HZ Sanborn Black Max (3 HP ?) that I bought before I was assigned to Hong Kong in 1991. When I got there I contacted
Sanborn and asked if it would be OK to run it on 220VAC 50HZ. They pointed me towards their electric motor supplier and I asked them
the same question and was advised "that motor is one of our best; it will run on 50HZ no problem albeit slower.
It used it heavily when I was building custom Harleys from 1992 thru 1999.
I've got it Downunder now and it's still going strong. However, it isn't my primary compressor any more. I've now got a 430VAC 50HZ
monster sitting in the corner of the shop.
Regards,
Rob M.

Mike,
I have a Sanborn compressor that I bought at Costco (back when they were Price Club), at least 25 years ago. It has not given me a bit of trouble ever. I admit to neglecting it badly. I don't think I have changed the oil in 10 - 15 years, and I seldom drain the tank. Still, it keeps on chugging away. Hopefully you will have as good luck with yours.

Yep - got mine at The Wholesale Club (before they were ruined by being acquired by Sam's) in '83. Still runs just fine. And as I type this I'm thinking it may be running right now as I forgot to turn it off and I have a very slight leak in the air system. Oh well, it can wait until morning.
