G'day,

To upload pictures on the GMC Photo Site you will have to register first.

When you fill in your Username keep in mind that if you choose something unique and not your name people will have difficulty
finding photos you upload.

When I first registered I used relleumt which is my name backwards, sort of. I got so frustrated trying to find pictures other
GMCer's had posted I decided to change it to Mueller R.

I do now worry about Interpol finding me so I am careful what photos I post! ;-)

Once you're registered you can click on the link below and follow J Harpers step by step procedure which will walk you through how
to upload photos:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showgallery.php?cat=4782

Regards,
Rob M.

Rob, I use picasa from google to manage my photos and to make the large photo files from my camera smaller so that I can upload them to the photo site. What do you do and have you found any place that the whole thing is documented? I just did a seminar at GMCWS on our new web site and I included a section on the GMCnet and GMCforum but stopped short of the photo site because I didn't have time.

Someone introduced us to ShrinkPic the other day. I downloaded and
installed it and find that it works flawlessly! Very handy little
memory resident program. Takes all the pain out of resizing photos
for emailing or publication on the photo site.

http://www.onthegosoft.com/shrink_pic.htm

I recommend it.

Bdub,

This is to sort pictures in an album, however, IIRC if you upload a number of pictures without putting them in an album they upload
in whatever sequence the program wants I THINK!

I suggest taking a few minutes and naming the pictures you're going to upload yadda-yadda 1, yadda-yadda 2, yadda-yadda 3; and so
on. That way whoever looks at them can easily tell the correct sequence. Also if they're in an album you can sort them by Image Name
as Bdub notes below.

THE FOLLOWING IS AN OBSERVATION NOT A CRITICISM!!!

Gene Fisher (mrerf) - DA MAN when it comes to providing info on the GMC - has an album on the Photosite that shows Manny installing
a 1 ton front end.

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showgallery.php?cat=5794

Unfortunately the pictures are random and the viewer has to figger out the sequence. It would be mo betta if they were in order so
dummies like me can see how to do it out easily. ;-)

Having said that it might be a test! If you can't figger it out you shouldn't be installing the 1 ton yourself! VVBG!

Regards,
Rob M.

Armand,

I use Microsoft Picture Manager which has some basic photo editing tools. If I want to mess with them I use Microsoft Paint which is
a PITA. I wouldn't mind finding out a good simple program to put text, lines, etc. in photos.

As you can see above I don't feel qualified to comment on the efficacy of the Photo Site as I don't have much experience with
photos.

Regards,
Rob M.

* Every photo on the site should be in an album.

* Before you upload a photo, create an album to put it in.

You can choose the order I spoke of when you create the album. You
can also go back and edit album properties at a later date.

** ALWAYS create an album for your photos. **

Rob, I highly recommend picasa from google. It is free and does most normal modifcations to photos. It will email and resize photos very easily. The best thing about it is it's cataloging abilities - you can find your photos easily. For people who don't speak computer Billy's suggestion is probably better though - but I'll bet you can handle picasa.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 is available at Costco or on their web site
(www.costco.com) now for $79.95. It's a very powerful program and WAY more
than I need, but it does all of that and then some. Just what I use.

Bdub,

If you upload a single picture you should create an album?

Speaking of creating albums I have not been able to figger out how to put pictures that are already on the PhotoSite into an album.
Is that possible?

Regards,
Rob

Don't see it mentioned - but you can also go under album edit and number the photos. If you plan to add more consider using 10, 20, 30 etc instead of 1,2,3 -- then just insert the new photos as 11, 21, and such...

Mac users will find Graphic Converter handy for resizing images and
manipulating them in other ways. It's also possible to convert formats,
etc. Graphic Converter is a "Swiss knife" for graphic users on the Mac.
Sorry PC users, real men use Macs.

Always, always, always have a leading zero (zed for you boys in the north)
so you can sort your photos correctly. Otherwise, the sort order will be
like this.

Photo1
Photo11
Photo12
Photo2
Photo3

Done correctly a sort order will go like this.

Photo01
Photo02
Photo03 and then will come
Photo11
Photo12

It's an alphanumeric sorting issue. Plan for it and you'll be happier,

Byron

Rob,

For years, I've used XnView for all of my photo manipulations. It's a free
program, very simple to use, with more features than I'll ever examine, much
less use. It allows automatic or manual adjustment of almost every photo
characteristic. It will do batch processing of almost any feature of any
sub-set of photos, including those which I don't even know are for.
Specifically, you can rename and renumber a set of photos with a mask such
as "Start with 010 and name this list of photos as ### My Photo (date).jpg
make them all 800x600 pixels" -- all by filling squares, of course -- not
with that statement.

Text can be added to photos, including the insertion of any of the saved
related data saved by your camera. The manipulation of that text is not
very sophisticated, but you can set font, color, background, location, etc.

Until Windows Explorer was significantly improved, I used XnView for all of
my file management -- it has most of the features of WinEx.
