Would be interested in different approaches to installing the Honda ev6010 into 26' GMC Generator bay. I've seen one on the GMCnet, but am interested in others ideas. Only big problem seems to be the muffler location. Is it possible to install it on aluminum expanded sheet? to provide definite air low out the bottom of the unit. I think all the exhaust fans exhaust down.
Does a fuel pump need to be installed? or does the Honda have it's own fuel pump. Awaiting for the shop manual to the ev6010. Hope it comes soon.

Tom Phipps,

Tom,

When I was down at the Coop I watched them install a Honda EV6010 in a coach. They made a plywood platform that would fit in the
Onan compartment that had cutouts which I believed were for cooling air intake and exhaust and the muffler.

Rob M.

Tom,

I forgot to mention that I think the Honda came with a template for the base.

I world definitely get in touch with Jim Bounds at the GMC Coop in Orlando, FL. He has probably installed more of the Honda units than anyone and has figured out the best way to run the exhaust, etc.

Tom, The Honda was designed to be installed with a solid floor. In the instruction booklet it warns that the compartment must have solid walls and floor and constructed within specific tolerances so that the air flow will cool the generator. The engine is water cooled but the generator is air cooled. The construction of the compartment directs air flow over components to adequately cool them. You don't want the same cooling air to be continuously recycled. Additionally, there should be a negative pressure in the compartment so that carbon monoxide is not forced into the living space of the coach.

Personally, I don't think plywood is a good base to set the genset on. A base plate may still be available from Honda or have one made as outlined in the manual.

The Honda does come with its own fuel pump.

Send me a private message and I can send you the manual on PDF. At one time it was available on line from Honda.

Tom,

I'll be up for this month's 'Crab Rally. You can check out
the installation that JimB did on mine 7 years ago. Good choice of generator. Mine has never failed to start.

See ya then.
