Ever got ahold of something you found difficult to let go of? No, not illegal drugs! I mean a hobby, a craft, or being a car person-like that! Such is the case with the GMC motorhome.
There are hundreds, perhaps thousands of GMC M/H owners who do not attend the rallies. I agree with those who argue there must be something there for you to want to attend. Some say there isn't anything for kids to do. Okay, I bet we can fix that.
Let me tell you why I love going to the so called "conventions".
1)The route is typically one we would otherwise not travel so we always see new things along the way. From Houston to Pueblo, Colorado or Amana Colonies Iowa was interesting and fun.
2)I really enjoy the tech sessions, even if the subject is something I do not wish to do or add to my GMC or cannot afford.
3)I had a blast at my first and only Pine Wood Derby event. Got second in class, now the challenge to be first.(Once a racer...)
4)I enjoy the people. We all have one thing in common, not age, not wealth, not position, just the GMC motorhome. That always is a good place to start a conversation.
5)I appreciate the GMCMI staff who work so hard for us. Can you imagine searching for an RV facility to accomodate 120-150 GMCs? I would like to see a 400 GMC rally.
6)I have always had fun. Sometimes just to see another GMC in motion and hear that wonderful sound and watch the suspension work. Other times to ride that silly motorized cooler around and give out soft drinks. That was a hoot!
Maybe I'm not hard to please, but there is always something new, if only the area, at a GMC rally. The skits are wacky too.
Many say they cannot afford the $320 or so to attend. I say if you have taken those so-so vacations where high hopes did not materialize, give a GMC M/H international rally a try. You will have something in common and to share with everyone else. No airport frisking guaranteed, no delayed flights, no lousy meals-ours are catered, and free ice cream. Ask someone who has attended,if you're thinking there is nothing there for you.
Have GMC, will travel...........Michael at GEMRECS
