I have been told the 23 foot Avion (project) in NC is still on the market and they put it on craigslist. asking price $8k but would like go a few k lower.

Searching craigslist at I did not fine IT, but I did find some GMC parts:

<http://raleigh.craigslist.org/rvs/2581364325.html>

The drivers seats are not much interest (unless they have late style pedestals) BUT the Onan 6000 watt generator set for $100 looks like a good deal... unless you have to ship it!

Mike,

IIRC:

1) This is the 23' Avion that you pointed me towards a year or more ago.
2) A GMCer that lived nearby went to look at it and sent you a bunch more photos.
3) The GMCer expressed an opinion that it needed a lot of work.

Unfortunately I can't seem to find the pictures or the emails that went back and forth between our selves.

I decided not to pursue it because I figger'd Helen would KILL me or at the very least divorce me!

Even though '23 Avions are rare personally I think the price is on the high side.

Regards,
Rob M.

Mike,

The seller notes that they are swivel bases, did the "angled" seat basis have the swivel feature?

These might be what Lyle was looking for.

Yes the angled bases had the swivel feature. I would have to look at my '73 to remember how they worked. (I have the metal parts but a PO removed the wooden bases and put in wood blocks.)

The angled bases where found in 1973, 1974 and some transmodes, pretty much anyway.

Rob,

While you were there, did you get an explanation about the Avion interior

Guy,

Richard inspected the coach not me.

Here's a picture of the 1978 Birchaven:

http://www.bdub.net/publications/1978_GMC_by_Coachman/1978_GMC_Coachman5.htm

It is logical that somewhere in the PO history the coach was re-painted and Birchaven decals and stripes were applied.

I don't think someone would gut a Birchaven and put an Avion interior in it!

OR

Avion would build a coach and put Birchaven decals and stripes on it!

Regards,
Rob M.

What are the odds of Avion building a coach in 1975 and putting the same stripes on it that Coachman would put on their Birhaven's... three years later.

As this Avion, like all Avions from the factory, is white (Yes I know, it looks brown in some pictures... it is dirty white) and 1978 birches where light brown. I think someone put a decal kit from a 1978 Birch on this Avion.

Why would anyone want to do that?

I haven't a clue.

Brian,

The round bases are NOT OEM GMC, they are aftermarket and readily available from a number of RV supply houses.

Richard Sowers is about 100 miles from Efland. He drove up, looked at the coach and took pictures last year. (What a guy!)

http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/sredir?uname=116133311780080773161&target=ALBUM&id=5495658669378874625&authkey=Gv1sRgCLnosoDF2P7wMw&fea t=email

I was the person who told the owner (Ken Copple) that the coach was NOT a Birchaven. I did tell him while the 23 foot Avion was rare, it wasn't THAT rare to make it worth the 12k he was asking at the time. (I think that was a soft, test the market, price.)

After reviewing Richard's pictures, I told Ken that, to me, the coach was only worth 2 to 3k... sitting in my driveway. So, with the cost to get it in my driveway would cost so much that the only way it would be worth it to me was if he GAVE me the coach! (I knew that would not happen!)

BUT... to someone who loves Avions and can restore it, it might be worth a little more. It would be sad to hear it ended up being destroyed, on purpose to scrap it or by someone who doesn't know any better while "improving it."
