You may find your solution by setting your rear tire pressure to what the tire manufacturer states is the correct pressure for the weight on those tires. 80 psi is likely way too high resulting in a much smaller contact patch on the road.

Jim, it's a 1973, newish 225/75 R16 tires, load range E, inflated to 80psi. Rear suspension completely replaced a few months ago. Ride height at OM standard. Southland air bags. Road master tow bar and bracket.
