Bob, several years ago I played with this using the cheap headlights that converted from a big bulb to the plug in type.
What I found was that I got what I paid for. LMC Truck sells a set that projects the light properly. I bought both and their relay harness. I have lots of light now.
Total cost was about 100 bux.

I have upgraded. I think I could get better headlights but I like the rest of the upgrade:

So... Use these headlights:

Then put in relays:

Here is my Blog on it:

That is a good deal Mike. Lots of my vw friends have bought them. I like the "clear look". That is the only reason I don't run them. Anyone wanting better headlights should consider the ones Mike posted.

Good write up Mike. Anyone wanting to change out the headlights should take a look. Mike explains it with photos.

I would suggest JimK's rectangular headlight conversion. Comes with new
fiberglass surrounds, lights, adjusters, etc. I tried a lot of different
round lights in my coach but found that the rectangular ones were the best.
I think they look a little better as well.

If you are using the old standard lamps that were stock on the GMC, I"d try the Halogen lights first. They are probably the cheapest of all of the upgrades and IMO are more than adequate. I had the old lamps, and converted to Halogens. Could not believe the difference. Before you spend a lot of money, think about how many times you have actually driven the coach at night. JMHO

I have the rectangular conversion headlights and bought the housings that take an H4 bulb. They work great, my surrounds however are falling apart, they have holes in them at the peaks.

I did notice that most auto stores sell high end halogen headlights in the rectangular or round housings, for comparable pricing to the bulbs only, it would be cheaper to buy them that way.
