Has anybody else noted what appears to be heat damage
to this intake manifold, both top side and bottom?

Mac,

The only thing I see on the top is white spots which I would think is corrosion.

The black stuff on the bottom is what one sees on just about every crossover the aluminum just highlights it cause it silver.

Mostly I was referring to the area on the top
of the manifold that is at the bottom of the
first picture. To me, it looks as if part of the
casting has been cut or filed away!

I believe that is the choke stove. Enlarge the picture and you can see the attaching bolt.
