Do it before Jan 1.

The headline of today's newspaper says Illinois is going to almost double the tolls at the first of the year.

Because they are so far is debt over there they can not borrow to at near 0% to fund additional construction and then pay off that cost with tolls over time. So they are going to charge current users double tolls to collect approximately 12 Billion for "new Construction".

Visit Illinois (who already doubled tolls for out of state people without I-Pass transponders) because it is going to double again on Jan 1.

Gotta love life in the Land of Lincoln! On top of all this, the Tollway Authority had the gall to say that most of the people at the public meetings on this proposal were in favor of increasing the tolls. I can't even figure out what an out of state, non I-pass equipped, GMC would have to pay to enjoy our sights!
Of course, our gasoline is also amongst the highest priced in the nation, and Chicago is increasing the property taxes on the residents next year.

Maybe if everyone starts using the Interstates going through downtown Chicago (not tollways), they might start getting the message that people are getting fed up. Of course, that would turn them into parking lots moving slower than they do already, but Chicago loves charging a lot for parking as well!

And the politicians are wondering why businesses are leaving Illinois?

OK, I feel better one that I've ranted. Sorry!

Well, I dropped 13 bux up there a couple of weeks back. Was the first time I have ever used toll roads with the GMC and I hope the last. It was looking very rainy to our east so we just stayed on the toll roads. Normally when we are in north Il. I can get around the tolls with no real problem. Oh well, our trip was very much worth more than worrying about the 13 bux we spent on tolls. Life is still good.

Here in Oregon, the DOT only charges tolls on Ferries and Bridges. They
haven't got around to charging people for the privelage of driving on the
roads that their tax monies have already paid for. Sounds like the common
folk (voters) in IL need to grow some and get active and stand up for what
is fair and just. Those tolls are like taxes, they are never, never, going
away as long as they feed the addiction that politicians have for our money.
Rant off. The Governors of Oregon and Washington have gone to their
respective legislatures to get money to study the best place to put a new 10
lane toll bridge over the Mighty Columbia River to replace the current draw
bridge on Interstate 5 that is too small for current traffic projections.
They have already run out of the comprehensive study funds previously
allocated without reaching a concensus as to where they want to build it.
The beat goes on, the beat goes on. La de da de da! "words from an old Sonny
and Cher song from the 60s. All you guys on the Eastern seabord hunker down
and protect your lives. Material possesions can be replaced. Hope you don't
get hit too hard.

We priced it for Dan to run the toll road from Rockford to Lansing. The bill would have been $29.00. He only went through one toll booth at Rockford and one on the south end near South Holland and it still cost him $13.00. So just figure on doubling all of that next year.

I run the through Chicago and RT 41 to Waukegan route most of the time going north (no tolls). I run the I-39 route going northwest to Madison or Minnesota. On rare occasion I run through one southern toll both to go to Midway.

It is a cash cow for them. Why would you think they would give it up.

Yes and thanks for helping me figure out the route to take, according to the tolls, Ken.

Home of the free...?
Up here in the second largest country in the world, there may be two toll roads.
One in Toronto (407) And one around Vancouver, BC.
But they are only 2,800 miles apart.
So, you won't do them both in one day.
