Hey guys I just picked up my NEW FRAME and its a good one. The frame came most of the steer components,Arms and torsion bars just need knuckles and hubs and ball joints to make it moveable while i work on it.Also I need some feedback on poly bushings anybody have any horror stories because that is the way i would like to go.

Ted,
Congratulations! Where'd you find it?
I may have what you need. I think I've got a couple of vehicle sets of
knuckles and hubs. But I'm not going out there right now! My GMC's sitting
with the transmission out and the oil pan off I'm not doing anything about
it 'cause the thermometer says it's 102*F out there!
I'll check this evening or tomorrow morning.

Thanks Mike and thanks again for going thru the trouble of bringing that BEAST back for me. You have a nice place up there and so many goodies. you should post some pics of the stone finish in your coach.Now i know where the EARL SCHIEB came from

Ken Earl schieb found it for me. He knows a guy in Texas that had a burnt coach which by the way he still has the Bogies for sale. The Frame is in excellent shape still has paint and i guess the chalk #s or painted #s on it. Gotta love those Texas Frames. I want to set this frame up like you did whith the wheels and dollies on the back so i can wheel it around and get it ready.Did you use the poly bushings?

Thanks for the link but for the couple of extra dollars i think i will stick with Jim K for my parts.I have had Parts return experience from Jim with no hassle whatsoever. Some things are just worth the little extra bucks and i have gotten a whole lot more info from him That you cant put a price on and that keeps me loyal. Not to sound like a JIM K. commercial but in my opinion He has helped pretty much everyone on this forum. And comes up with all kinds of buying programs.
That being said if i need something fast i will pick up something local if i need it in a hurry California is a long ways from Georgia.

Ted,
It is refreshing to hear your feedback as I am the one to receive all
the negative things and I have to follow up and make sure they are
resolved.
When we process over 30 orders a day, there will be errors, I know I
have done more than my share.
What I hate are people that will not let me know if something is not
correct and gripe before I can hear about it and correct it.
I am on the phone with all the other vendors weekly and pick up who is
saying what and to put them on a list.
In our filter business, we seldom have any issues, but the GMC side
can be very painful at times to where I feel its not worth the pain.
It is amazing how many of the orders come from people that are not
aware of the GMC net.
Again, if were not doing a good job for any reason, please give me a
chance to correct it even after the fact.

Ted,
I've still got the A-frame tow bar I used to move my front clip; you're
welcome to beg, borrow, buy, or steal it any time for as long as you like.
When we figure out what parts I may have here to help, maybe you can run
down and pick it all up.

This is somewhat unrelated to this thread, but after reading Jim's response, I feel compelled to give another Jim K. testimonial:
During our last trip, I noticed that my generator compartment fire extinguisher had leaked down somehow. I had bought this "Fire Fight" halon unit from Jim's table at the Pueblo GMCMI convention a couple of years ago. I called Jim and told him about the problem, and he said he would have Nick look to see if he had one in stock. I also emailed both Jim and Nick with a reminder. Tuesday, when I got home from work, there was a package waiting for me from Applied. It was a new fire extinguisher. I appreciate the service, and that's why I deal with Jim k. and Jim B. as much as I can.

Gotta tell ya man, the best phrase for parts produced for niche markets like what we do is "It almost fits perfect". The customers must understand there are not enough of the unique parts we produce to gleen over instruction maunals or costly small updates and changes. We build coaches and install this crap so we need to know how to make it all fit. it takes that to make some of this stuff work but folks don't understand sometimes it's great just to get some of these parts-- you may have to work a bit to get it all working right. What can I say, it's just that way and you can hold Jim K. or me or anyone else at task for some of the small things. There isn't that much profit in this to take that level of liability. Wish there was but you really would not want to pay for that level of finish.
Shipping 30 packages a day--- you would have to check me into the Betty Ford clinic! Could not deal with that many people telling me "it won;t fit"!
Keep going and please don;t stop, that would mean they would call me next--- run away-- run away!

Powder coating ain't all it's cracked up to be, IMHO.
My front clip was powder coated by the PO and it still looks pretty in most
places, but it's awfully easy to chip -- the bottom of the front cross
member is a good example. As are the bottoms of the lower A-arms where I
sometimes use a jack. And if the surface is not properly prepared, rust
beneath the powder coat will soon pop it off -- after more damage is done.
I have the electric wiper kit parts powder coated for appearance and rust
protection, but they live in a pretty benign environment, not much subject
to damage. Plus the metal is new so needs little preparation. We've got a
local powder coater; if we had a local plater, I'd try to use that.

Whilst powder coating can be successfully painted to bare steel, the
material should be prepared against rust by rust preventive coating before
powder coating. Powder coat is porous and moisture will enter and rust will
occur on unprepared surfaces causing bubbling (rust forming underneath) to
the powder coating with eventual breaking of the surface and flaking.

All I can say is that to own a GMC in 2011 and not be aware of this board, must be a difficult journey without the wisdom and support of the members here. Like some weird parallel universe.

POR-15 looks to me to be the best coating for steel. Really tough and hard to scratch. Doesn't seem to mind rust as long as it isn't loose.
