I added this to a prior topic and it got buried. Has anyone tried using an old fashioned cool can added in just before the most proximal fuel pump to the carb/FI to combat vapor lock? It's an old drag racing trick to get every last drop of performance.

Apart from having to buy ice, they really don't do much. I saw them back in my drag race days and was never impressed. The thought that the cold fuel would not pre-ignite as easily or that the you could get more fuel in if it was more dense never is actually borne out by the actual facts and associated mathematics.

Now, if you got that little gizz used on some GM cars in the late 70's that returned part of the fuel delivered to the carburetor back to the fuel tank and put this in that return line, you could melt a whole lot of ice and maybe - just maybe - lower the tank temperature a degree or so.

How about taking some 1/4" steel line, wrap it around the AC return line to the compressor and braze it down and route the return line for the gas through this cooler. Insulate as needed. Would work even better if the return went to a surge tank that supplied the main fuel pump, especially if fuel pump from the tank to the surge tank is an in-tank fuel pump.

Seems like a good idea using the ac in some way to cool stuff down. If someone trys this let me know Smile.
