Yesterday, Margie and I delivered the Possum coach to Marsha. After close to 1500 miles (remember we took the southern rout to avoid long 6% grades) the coach arrived safe and sound. Well, sound may be a little stretch, the coach needs work but Marsha is determined to get started on her new project.
Fuel costs were approximately $640.00 just for the coach. Marsha paid that bill as well as quite a bit of our expenses. The Possum fund paid for the parts (approximately $300.00) to get it rolling (and keep it rolling) and for some of our expenses associated with the retrieval. I apologize that I don't have the exact accounting. I left all of the receipts and accounting with Marsha and forgot to keep a copy.
By the time we arrived at Marsha's, a bearing was starting to make itself known. Could have been a front wheel bearing but sounded and acted more like a FD bearing or an inner CV joint. That is on Marsha's project list.
I'm grateful for all of the help in getting this coach running. Marsha had the expectation that with a few minor repairs, this coach could be driven home. When faced with the reality of what was needed, she proceeded to handle her situation. First, trying to sell the coach, no takers. And then, to part the coach out to recover some of her investment. Lots of offers to take parts but then the GMC community felt that the coach should be saved if possible. Hence, the possum fund and volunteers to provide a place to keep the coach, put on exhaust, fix fuel delivery issues and then additional work to get it running reliably and safely, and keep it rolling for it's trip home.
Another coach saved from being parted, then crushed. Good job GMC community!

We really didn't do all that much. Many GMCers across the country contributed to make sure this coach did not end up at the crusher. The "Possum Posse" slaved away in the heat of NC to get a big portion of the required tasks completed. So, donations of time, parts, and money all contributed to making this happen. We all choose to volunteer to help others in many different ways and that is our choice. I'm just glad to be in a position to help someone else out of a jam.

I've been trying to archive what I could on a web page. I'd really
appreciate a good writer to put it all together for posterity. I've
attempted to archive the GMCnet traffic on the subject since the beginning
if anyone cares to go back over it all. I can't believe it's an 11mb file!

Rob,when we were in Australia in 1989, we kept seeing dead possums on the
road--lots and lots of them, so I said, wow, somebody should save all those
pelts and make jackets. Wouldn't you know, I walked into a shop and there
they were--possum jackets. No need to waste.

Sandra,
I forgot to mention that despite the location of our townhouse (2.5 Km from
the Sydney CBD) we had one that lived in a tree on our neighbor's property
for awhile and would poop on our outdoor table, yuk! I called a company that
traps them. I was advised that there was nothing they could do. If they get
in your attic they can trap them and seal up where they get in but they have
to be released on your property.
We had some friends staying with us and one evening we were in our courtyard
and there it was sitting on our back balcony watching us. Our two cats just
looked at it too; they weren't going anywhere near it!
