I've had a really nice Proto gear puller panel for about 15 years. Very heavy duty with all the attachments you would ever need to pull a gear, pulley, etc, etc. So under the coach I'm trying to set it up to use it for torsion bar adjustment. Get the porkchop very close to being able to slide the "nut" in the cross member and KERPOW!!!!. The end snaps right off the d**n main center gear puller screw. After looking through all my sources Proto does not make the main screw anymore so I am screwed so to speak.
I ordered and received one of JimK's pullers (which I should have done in the first place). This thing is a beast, very heavy duty and very safe looking I might say. I don't know what the torque is on one one of our torsion bars bars but best not to dick around with the wrong tool or a makeshift tool like I did. I should have known better.
Thanks

Gary,
=> SAVE THE PIECES <=
That main screw in a good puller is either Acme or Buttress thread (amce is almost square and buttress looks like a normal thread tipped near 60* in the load direction so the working side is almost square.) Proto may not make it anymore, but there may be another manufacturer that still does (but they are getting few in the US), so, talk to the local tools suppliers like Snap-on, Mac and Matco. They may be able to get you something that will fit.
Should that fail. Get a BIG nut someplace and have a local welding shop stick it on the end of the pusher thread. Be sure to tell him that the threaded piece is probably hard and you don't want to blow the temper. He should be able to do that.
If enough of that straight section between the hex and the thread remains, it may be possible to clear the nut threads so it mates up nicely.
I hate loosing the use of a good tool.

Small typo in the description.
It should say 3/4" bolt. Not #/4"
