So, I wonder if any of the GMC coaches will make it all the way to Pontiac Saturday? I guess this thing is really big this year as they are already running up and down the Blvd. All over the Detroit news last night and Facebook. Hope I can get to Pontiac Saturday morning to enjoy a little of this big "show". That looks like the easiest place for me to get to from Romeo.

You need to experience the whole cruise atleast once. It shouldn't be bad at all to get down to 8 mile where the GMC's are talking about meeting. Take 53 south to somewhere around 14 mile then slide over to I-75 and take it down to 8 Mile. Rather than leave your car where they are meeting, I'd go up to 9 Mile and park in that area and have one of the GMC's pick you up as they go by. Traffic shouldn't be too bad on that part of Woodward early, so their stopping to let you board shouldn't be a problem.

Unfortunately, I have other plans and won't be making the cruise this year with any of my vehicles.

Dan,

The last Cruise Convoy hit Woodward at 8 mile and drove the whole loop there to Pontiac and use the E. Huron loop to head back. We drove it twice that day and may do that again because you miss too much the first time.

If you pass me a number, I will TRY to remember to call you when we cross Square Lake Road.

Ok, thanks Matt. 573 625 1038. Now that is a secrete number so don't give it to just anybody. Very Happy
I see the road you are talking about. I will try to firm up my plans. I just hate to get caught in traffic and cant get out. Figure Pontiac is my best shot. If I can get closer, as noted earlier 8 mile, I will let you know. We are visiting my 92 year old aunt. I don't want to be gone all day from her.

Dan -

As of right now, it looks like Matt Colie and Gary Mills are cruising their coaches. I may join them to make it a threesome, but haven't decided if I'm bringing my coach or my dad's '59 Buick. FWIW, you may not see much in Pontiac, as most of the action is along Woodward between 8 Mile and Square Lake Rd. I'm not sure how far north Matt and Gary are planning to go before looping back, but if we get as far as Pontiac we could probably pick you up for the ride (or maybe have you meet us a bit further south).

There is also a huge meet going on in Flint on the same day:

http://backtothebricks.org/index2.html

Two years ago, my dad and I cruised his Buick from downtown Detroit, for the Dream Cruise, all the way up to Flint, and spent the rest of the afternoon checking out that meet.

Hope to see you this weekend.

Wow, everyone replied while I was composing my previous post. I guess my question was answered: they are planning on going all the way up to Pontiac.

Dan,
Pontiac isn't a bad place to see the cruise. There is a fairly large paid attendance lot for cruisers next to the Phoenix Center downtown. There are trophies available for the best cars at the lot, so some good stuff there. Nowhere near the scale of Royal Oak and Birmingham, but a little more laid back than those crowds, which isn't all bad. Also have street vendors with food and trinkets, and they used to have a swap meet in one of the downtown parking garages. They have entertainment on the roof of the Phoenix center parking deck.

This site <http://www.woodwarddreamcruise.com/About/EventsParking/Pontiac.aspx> gives a little more information.

Oh that is exciting! We were just in the area and are now home in northern Michigan, now home of the most beautiful place in America, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lake Shore (ABC poll). I thought crusing the dream cruise in the GMC would be a hoot and hope you are all going to do it. The GMC is maybe the best thing to have come from the motor city! We are on the clock watching for our first grand child, coming soon! Otherwise we would join you! Hoing to make the post meet at Ludington with the Great Lakers.

Craig,

I don't have an @ddress for you anymore.

If you can leave the coach in good hands, we could stop at 10 Mile and pick you up and drop you off on the back haul.

To everybody else that might care,
Yes, the show is pretty much over at Square Lake, there are some Pontiac clubs in Pontiac (Duh), like GTO and Firebird.

The Wide Track Drive Loop (crossed by Huron St) makes a real convenient turn around.

Matt,

I'm at craig dot lechowicz at sbcglobal.net. I never know who or how many people are going to show up at my lot, so I'm pretty much anchored there cooking and providing adult supervision, which is a stretch for me . . . So, thanks for the offer, but I'll have to pass. Hope everyone has fun, and we'll be watching for you. My coach is hard to see as it's behind a brick wall, and you can only see it from the windshield up.

Not much happening now on the live feed but it should pick up about 6:00pm and be good all day tomorrow. Also, www.wxyz.com will be having a lot of coverage but their 7pm-9pm show tomorrow has too much non-cruising stuff mixed in.

Dan,

Mary will be driving, she likes to and I don't discourage that at all.

We may well run the loop twice. It takes that to see what you missed the first time.

Our current plans are to rendezvous at a church at the corner of Hazelhurst and Hilton in Ferndale (between 8 & 9 mile a little east of Woodward) at about 10:30~11 and go from there.

If the weather looks good for it when we are north bound, I will ring your phone so we can hook up.

If you want to get a hold of me - seven 34, five five 2, 3 five two three.

Tomorrow

Thanks for the info. I can't make it from here in OKC but I
tipped my brother and his wife off a few days back about the
cruise and told them they ought to go. I think they tried
last year but it rained?

They used to live in Waterford, the part that used to be
known as Drayton Plains. They can't find a buyer for their
house there (duh!) so they use it in the hot months of the
summer instead of their place in TN.

My sister-in-law emailed that we should come up for the cruise.

I got the following from her this morning.

--- Begin quoted message ---

"Mornin'.

Thought I'd make you drool a little bit. Guess where we're
going tomorrow?

We'll be on Woodward Avenue! We have a three-day pass.
You should have come up! Maybe next year!

Guy Fieri from the Food Network has a show on TV called Drive-ins,
Diners and Dives. He has an SS that Mal (my brother) thinks...
convertible. Anyway, he was in Clarkston yesterday with Kid Rock.
Whoopee, eh? Guess he came to Detroit for the Dream Cruise.

Anyway.....have a nice weekend."

--- End quoted message ---

Do I wish that we were going? Is the Pope a Catholic? Maybe next year!
