Hi Rob,
There are lots of similar commercial items on eBay and elsewhere. I have looked at several of them and found all of them wanting for our application. In most cases the standoff pins are too short to clear the lug nut covers and center cap on our coaches. If you lengthen the stand off pins the unit becomes too flexible. In other cases they are simply too flimsy or not accurate, or, or, or.... The adjustable ones were especially bad in terms of presenting a planer surface that mirrored the rim. I ordered several and returned them all before designing the ones discussed here. I also find the four point units to be more robust and fit more firmly on the rim so I think will be better for our mix of experienced and not so experienced club member users. If the stand off plates do not accurately mirror the plane of the rim then everything else is moot. The measurements will be too far off to be useful. You can't believe how inaccurate and flexible some of the commercial uni
ts are. I have one well advertised integrated unit that includes a nice rack and pinion style adjustable standoff, a built in meter and toe measuring arms that moves around like a wet noodle. I don't know how anyone can really use them. It will go back tomorrow.
If you can find a standoff plate set that matches all the objectives I outlined then I would gladly substitute them for the ones I have designed. Thanks for the observation.
PS, you can't rain on my parade as I live in Or'gun where rain was invented......although my part of the state is sunny and hot eight months out of the year. The other four I go south to where they would really like to have some rain, but don't.
