Seen that and I was considering giving them a call to see if they would
deliver to Marginal Way Seattle for the price.
I ship to Australia from there.
Could do with a spare just in case here in Australia

That one looks like it's already been down there and back a few times as
deck cargo.

Or a trailing anchor. If I did buy it I would send it to Manny and have him
it go over it.
Sure looks like it has been sitting somewhere for a long time.

Peter,

If it wasn't for the additional shipping it could be a find. That's
probably a good tranny for one of the vendors.

It was a find, but better ones will come along - particularly since you
don't need it right now.

G'day,

Tom E

Peter,

FYI I have a Switch Pitch trans and 3.21 to 1 Final Drive that Manny rebuilt
for me to go into The Blue Streak. When I swap them out WE will have a spare
transmission and final drive in Australia.

Mark Bennett spotted a Toronado trans and final drive up in Gosford a couple
of years ago and I went up and got them for him. On one of his trips down to
Canberra he stopped here, picked up the trans and brought it home with him.
I reckon it needs rebuilding.

I shipped the final drive down to a guy in Melbourne for JimK to see if he
could install a manual locking feature like they use on rock climbers. He
couldn't do it and returned it to me in Sydney.

Regards,
Rob M.

Thanks Tom,
I was figuring if I had a spare the chances are I would never need it as I
sure would not like to have to get one of these trans sorted here in
Australia if mine went wrong and always if you need something in a hurry
here and it comes from overseas you pay a huge premium. Maybe at some time
some one will be able to put me in touch with some one that has a known good
example that they are willing to part with and get it to Seattle as well,
here is hoping.

Rob,

Good job! Did someone say "Communication"?

Looks like you are all set Pete. Even if he is a USAussie and a USYankee!

Rob, remind me to tell you my non-GMC 1956 Tbird story someday...

Unless I knew more about who did the rebuild, how long ago and it's history after that.... I wouldn't pay half what they are asking. Without the history, I would assume it is "a core" and I bought "a core" for $75.

It cost the same to ship a core or a rebuilt one. Like others have stated, I wouldn't ship a core down under. I would have a good one built by Mani THEN ship it south.

When you install the switch pitch you should also install the Bruce
Roe control box. It controls the operation through a vacuum switch and
has an internal timer so you don't leave the switch on too long so as
to overheat the transmission. It also has a selector to turn it off,
on automatic control, or on manually.

If you are on automatic and are on a long grade the automatic position
of the switch will often shut off the switch pitch before you pass
that semi or before reaching the top of the grade. If that happens I
will take a look at my transmission temperature gauge and if it is not
too high I will switch to manual to get up the grade in switch pitch
mode. The extra RPMs sureake a difference.

If you need more information on thr Roe controller contact me or
Manny. We both use it on our motorhomes.

Emery,

Thanks, will do!

The PO disconnected the radiator trans oil cooler and fitted a BIG remote
oil cooler with a fan on it. He also installed an oil filter in the loop.

I have an aluminum radiator for it and will put it back in the loop.
