Actually, there are also free apps for the iPad and iPhones that allow them to act like a digital or bubble level.
That should allow you to easily check the camber anytime you want! Gotta love some of this technology.

Where's the fun in that? :-)
Seriously, I'm convinced that I can do as accurate a job with the general
purpose level as I could with a purpose-built caster/camber gauge. Granted,
I'll have to do all that higher math in my head instead of reading the label
on the caster gauge. But, I need a little brain activity to try to slow the
atrophy.

Not quite. First off, it's only accurate to 0.3* vs 0.1* (I don't do
high-ASCII) for my Craftsman.
As far as measuring caster, the level stays vertical throughout the process.
Caster is calculated from the variation in camber as a wheel is rotated
about the "king pin" (ball joints).
When using a dedicated camber/caster gauge, the scale for the caster
measurement is calibrated to include the "fudge factor" used to calculate
caster from camber variation. That's why the gauge manufacturer specifies
the turn angle.

Ken, I still have to use the swag method to figure out the center of the bubble and where it"s located. Since I"ve used a ruler and the swag most of my life it would be to hard to stuff all those numbers in such a small space. Oh did I mention that along time ago I submitted an electronic level (the first ever made) to stanley tools, It beeped when it was level and they rejected it. Funny though, they started selling one about a year later. Ran across the file the other day.

Ken,
Thanks for correcting me. Looks like my disclaimer was correct, it IS piece
of crap as far as using it for wheel alignment goes. ;-)
I bought one of these because that's what Bob Drewes had in his article on
wheel alignment.

I reckon your level will provide a more accurate caster readings than I can
read the bubble!

John, I used amazon to find this one on sale. They went for as much as 128.00 for this model. I'll see if I have stored the sales slip with my other GM papers and thats a large pile. Funny, every time I think that it"s finished something good comes up on this forum and starts another project. I believe now that I will go in the ground before it"s finished. Done to much work to it to sell it.
