I'm going to take a flyer on moving the new windshield from the donor coach over to the running coach.
I have someone who does auto glass who's willing to give it a shot, but they don't have a supplier for the weather stripping.
I couldn't find a reference to it on the sites. Help?
Thanks.
Dolph

Sir: the windshield is held in the rubber with a lock bead, it should be available at any automotive glass shop.

We do not normally replace the whole weather strip gasket. The job becomes more difficult when you do so only bad ones get replaced. If the guy is in the glass business then the rubber gasket is orderable from the same supplier where you buy the glass.
The old gasket has a locking bead in it. That bead is removed during windshield removal and is normally replaced. The bead is a common item and comes in a roll. I do not remember how long the roll is since the installed just grabs a roll off of the shelf and uses it. I'm guessing is is 50 or 100 feet long. If he is in the windshield business he should have it in stock.
If you can not find what you need locally, call Jim Kanomata at Applied GMC. He has everything you need.

I just had one of my windshields replaced, and though I also thought that they would have to replace the old rubber windshield surround, the glass went into the old one without any trouble. Any glass fitter should be able to handle the install.
If you do decide to replace it, I'm sure it is available from Cinnebar in Michigan as well if that's close to you. You probably would want to compare pricing before buying from one or the other. Otherwise, I'm sure both of the Jim's have it.

[quote title=Dolph Santorine wrote on Wed, 10 August 2011 19:10]Count on the pictures, and I'll let you know how it goes.
The glass fitter basically said that it would be easier if he cut the gasket to get the glass out.
Now that I understand the locking bead, I think he does not really understand all of it.
Thanks for the help.

Sir: It probably would be easier to cut the rubber in the doner coach to get the glass out without breaking, but do not cut yours when taking glass out to replace.

Those gaskets are about $200 or so. Pull the donor one by removing the pillar screws and jack the roof up a little with a porto-power or floor jack. That way you don't wreck either gasket. J.W.I.D.
