The pin went to a serious collector who wants the 2nd pin also.

BTW, I am thinking of putting my treasured GMC Belt Buckle on ebay soon. I
really have mixed emotions about this as it was a special presentation by JR
Slaten but... neither of my sons are interested in it and I can't take it
with me. Perhaps it will go to someone who can appreciate its fine
workmanship and beautiful design.

Before you auction the buckle, submit it to TBW out in California (Los Gatos) and ask them how much to reproduce it.  JimK or some of the others might want to sell them.  Or it might be a way for one of the clubs to raise a bit of cash.

For those who noticed at Noccalula, the one I wear is one of fifty struck for charter affiliates of RKO Networks, given out at the NAB convention in 1980.  I'm inordinately proud of it.

That's funny, JR gave one to my son and he wouldn't consider getting rid of it - even to me. This piece should not be reproduced except by JR. To get one is special and should stay that way.

Agreed.

But there would be a market for buckles with a SIMILAR design. Didn't someone say they had a shop that had equipment that could make these rather easily?

Besides making something that many of us would like, it could be a way to make those rallies tax deductible as a business expense.

David,

Glad to hear you did well on the pin.

For those of you that want one Ramona Sirum has had a new batch made up and
they can be purchased from Jeff.

They come in two models; white and gold.

The gold ones are white ones without the white cloisonné applied.

Johnny,

Here's a link to pictures of the GMC buckles:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showgallery.php?cat=5419

There are two more out there; one has a "picture" of a van on it and as I
understand it was presented to people that worked at the GMC factory in
August 1977 when it was converted from building GMC's to vans.

The second is one of the Coca Cola Gadabout GMC's.

Bill Bryant has all of them, lucky bugger!

I wear J.R.'s laser cut buckle daily for the same reason you wear the RKO
buckle!

I think those of us that have been honored by JR presenting us with his belt buckle probably all had huge smiles. I know that I was humbled by his thoughtfulness. Mine will never be sold, I will either "take it with me" or return it to JR with many thanks for the honor.

As far as I know JR Slaten is not able to produce these buckles anymore but
I consider the design to be his and it is something that he should be
consulted before going elsewhere.

I am told I won't need a belt where I am going, nor pants for that matter.
Something to do with the heat!

I have two of the #1 version. One says Sunwest Buckles 1988 on the back.
The other has more detail and says Anacortes Brass Works, Ltd. and 1984, Aracortes, Wash, USA and is in the original presentation box.

My #2 has no markings on the back but looks identical to the pictures of the original #2.

I am looking for a #3 if anyone has a surplux one for sale.

I also am the proud owner of JR Slaten's masterpiece.

Nah, if it's an earned award it's not to be duplicated.  I wasn't aware of that.
I've gotten hard looks a couple of times when I took Combat Infantrymaan's badges off kid singers who  came by the studios.  I suppose they thought the rifle was 'cool'.  It isn't worn by them as didn't earn it as far as I am concerned.

Johnny,

Take the hard looks from those kids - there are those that earned that medal
and some with the Oak Leaf Cluster. My Dad was awarded his after landing on
Omaha Beach D-Day. Most don't know the criteria for getting awarded the
CIB. He also picked up the Purple Heart and a bunch of other ribbons etc.
He was with the 29th Division - "Saving Private Ryan" rings a bell - The
Blue And Grey Division. Based out of Bedford, VA at the time. Home of the
National D-Day Museum. Ask me how I know...

Thanks for the memories and thanks for remembering!
