We have 2 GMC's, a 73 Glacier and a 77 Palm Beach. The windows in the 77 Palm Beach are beginning to fall out. Are the windows for the 73 Glacier interchangeable with the 77 Palm Beach?

The rubber seals in the 77 that fit around the glass on the outside have shrunk and need replacing. Does anyone know if theses are replaceable. We are trying to find the most economic way out of this situation.

The replacement rubber channels are available from the Jims from what I've read. The early and late windows are different, but you could replace the entire window assembly if needed.

I'd recommend simply replacing and rebuilding the windows. It's really not all that daunting of a project. Once you've done one, you'll see how they go together. I think JimB even has a video on his site that shows how to do this.

If you change the WHOLE window... yes it should fit in the same size hole.

BUT.... I would "NEVER" take out a newer style window and install the early multi-part framed windows. There where several reasons they did not keep the older style when they did the 1975 model year upgrades.

Get what you need to fix the 77's windows from one of the Jims.

Here is what I have found: Early style windows 73-75
Late style windows 76-78.
Early Style- slide front to rear, have early style latches(same as for the front 3-piece window latch).
Fit in exposed grove in window frame(collects dirt)
Flip over to use on other side of coach
Must remove window from coach to take window pane out

Late Style- Slide rear to front, have late style latches with spring to lock(differs from front 3-piece window)
Glass is glued to frame can take stationary pane out with frame in coach.
Has rubber trim on outside to keep dirt out of track
Has a different frame from early style windows
Flip over to use on other side of coach.

Question-are the glass panes the same early vs late style? Answer, I do not know as I have not compared one to the other.

Q: Are the frames compatable with either the early or late coaches? Yes! I have seen late style windows in early coaches but not early style in late coaches.

Window removal- Remove overhead cabinet - - Remove trim around window - - Remove the metal strips that hold the frame against the coach - - Pry one corner and/or use rubber hammer to loosen - - then slowly pry the frame loose. It will fall outside so have a helper or work slowly to hold the frame as you continue to loosen(you must control the frame and it is recommended that you use a second person stationed outside to help hold/catch he frame. Often, the PO has used silicone or some other adhesive to secure the frame/stop leaks. This stuff can be difficult to break free-use a box blade to cut it and free the frame, careful not to scratch the frame.

Once free from the coach, note the frame is held together with screws. Using a sharp pointed pick, remove the "amber" from around the screws and the + slot in each screw. I use Kroil on the screws to help loosen. Use an impact screw tool to loosen each screw. Without this tool, you will likely strip the screwdriver slot then have to drill the screw out. The impact screw driver(hand held and struck with a hammer)will eventually loosen the screw without stripping the head.

Once the screws are removed, use a wooden block against the frame and gently tap the block to begin separating the frame. Switch from one end to the other to avoid binding the frame section. You want to remove the front and rear frame sections so the glass will slide out. On some frames the stationary glass has a metal strip that is screwed to the frame at the top and bottom. Remove these screws careful not to damage the somewhat fragile end where the screw goes.

Note-some windows have small rectangle shaped aluminum pieces below the window in the frame opening of the coach. Look for these and be careful to replace them when reinstalling the window.

Late style window panes are usable in either side of the coach both fixed portion and movable portion. Both large and small. At least this is the case on my 77 royale.

The windows are very easy to re seal, all it takes is a little tlc, and time. Either GMC outfit in FLa will have the replacement rubber seals for the windows. Most GMCERS will perfer the later windows in the 74, then the reverse. You can do it and the nice thing is, you can do them one at a time.
