Some time back, there were some pictures posted of a very robust device made
for the purpose of straightening bent bogie arms. I just tried to search the
picture site and was unsuccessful in finding those pix. Does anyone have a
link? Thanks,

Jim,
We have not had the time to work with it, so if you like, I will send

Jim, if you would not mind sending it, please do so. I will give it a real
test. Got at least three coaches to use it on. Should give us some valuable
enpirical data.

Jim,

How 'bout giving us a good report on how you use it; specifically, the
metrology.

Ken, OK. Pix and articles to follow. I will detail the geometry involved
also. Might do a GMCWS presentation on it in OCT if it turns out well.
Thanks for the interest.

Jim, bending in and out with this device is a cakewalk. However, "twisting"
the arm(s) is a bit scary. Be sure to use anti gall compound on the
threads, and wear safety glasses. It puts tremendous loads on the four
backing plate bolts, so make sure they are at least grade 8! I was afraid a
head might pop of one of those bolts, and if it did, the others would go
too, like a Gatling gun! So steer clear of those bolts when under twisting
load and wear safety glasses. Hopefully you will not have to twist any of
your arms! It's incredible how much you have to twist them to make them
take a set! Ideally, you would "over twist" a bit, then "untwist" a bit to
partially relieve internal stresses.

Also, this thing works on the assumption your mounting surface on the frame
is parallel with wheel alignment, and vertical when the coach is level.
Bear in mind that even when everything is square/vertical, the wheels take a
slight negative camber when weight is put on them. You may have to use
shims between the casting and frame to compensate for that.

Last thing...I had pretty bad wear in the pins and bushings on the passenger
side and had to repair before bending arms. No amount of alignment will do
any good if the pins/bushings are worn!

Don't normally monitor this forum anymore...just happened to see this post,
so please send any correspondence regarding this to redruber@gmail.com

Good Luck,
Druber
