We did this two years ago and it was a great time. It may be the best way to see the entire 8 mile run (16 mile loop). The only better way would be to stand in one place and walk the entire loop. (I didn't say I had figured out just how to do that.) But you need to stay in one place so the cruisers get to pass by, but there are whole city blocks dedicated to: the Corvette Club, The GTO Club, Three different Mustang groups, at least as many Camaros, the Cobra owners, the Corvair club, The VW people, and Chargers, Torinos, Vipers, Thunderbirds - one old, one new, Prowlers, (just to name a few) that you have to travel the route to see. The best part for me is that Mary loves to drive the coach, so she drove an I just sat in the left see and marveled at the show.

After the caravan of two years ago, I heard about the three motorhomes for many months. It was a real good time, and we can use the publicity.

Last year was pretty much rained out. We looked at the webcams and stayed home.

Let's make plans based on no rain.

Woodward Dream Cruise is always the 3rd Saturday in August, so the 20th, this year. I can't Caravan, but will again have my GMC setup in a small lot (Dr. Zamler Family Dentistry - a great dentist!) on the west side of Woodward just North of 10 mile (and the zoo). Adult beverages and food for any GMC'ers that stop by. I don't really have room to park GMC's but the last couple of years, the restaurant next door has been closed, and might have some parking space. Also, could park at the zoo, and only have to walk 1/4 mile or so.

I think it's only rained 2 or 3x in the 16 prior years of having it. Usually, it's very hot though.

Sorry Folks....

I seem to have left out some information, fortunately Craig filled in the date. As Craig said, it is always the third Saturday in August - that happens to be the 20th this year.

Location is Michigan, Woodward Avenue was THE cruising road of the 50s and 60s. While Woodward starts just short of the river in Detroit and runs northwest (more or less) to Pontiac. The modern cruise starts about Eight Mile Road and runs in earnest all the way to Pontiac.

If you can't get there, there were four or six webcams covering it last year, but that is kind of like listening to fireworks on the radio.

Thanks. That's a little far north for us on this trip. Sounds like
something we would enjoy.

That is super cool since I will be in my birth town on that date. Won't be driving the GMC in the parade but I would drive someone else's so they can look out the window.
Can't wait. Have never got to attend this.

We would like to join you in the route to Pontiac on Woodward. How many

Gary,

Good to hear from you.

Right now, it is just us (1 coach) and hopefully Nick Chapekis in another. You would make 3. I am hoping to convince Rich Waters to come along and Craig Lechowicz will have his coach parked there. I wonder if he would like to ride part of the route? I'll ask.

The Murray's (O'Reily's) on 8 mile at St. Louis (just west of Woodward) was your good pick last time.

Lets wait to get closer to pick a time.

I have GMRS radios now.

We will be in Pontiac waving. According to what I got yesterday there is a deadline on registering for the cruise. Don't recall what it was.

To be an actual part of the cruise - yes there is, but we will not be. You can not be - too.
We will be "normal traffic" (which just happens to be dog slow that day) in the center and left lanes.
You want to meet and run the 16 mile loop with us?

The front seat of a GMC is THE BEST WAY to see the cruise BAR NONE. The only other good a choice would be to stand in one place (so you don't miss any cruisers) and walk the 16 mile loop so you can see the collections along the route. (Please note: I did not say that I knew just exactly how to do this.)

I have never registered. I never heard of such a thing. Register to
drive down "Woodward Avenue"??? It is an open highway. In fact it is
the first paved highway there ever was.

Oh, ok. Sorry. Maybe it was a club thing going down the hiway together. Forget I mentioned it.

Dan,

That would be an easy mistake to make.
There are (today) 19 clubs registered at the event (including the VW owners). There are at least six other judging events for quality of build/restoration that I know of and I am sure I don't know about all of them.

If we get enough coaches, we can have an impromptu concourse. I can judge since there is no way my coach could be entered in such.

Well, OK Dan, You're registered, now all you have to do is show up. You really want Teri to drive, you sit on the right side and try not to scratch the inside of the windshield with your sunglass frames.

Ok, thanks Matt. We plan to leave the coach in Indiana and drive the car over to Romeo. I don't think I can find my way around enough to get anywhere except Pontiac so that is likly where we will be cheering folks on as they end the cruise.
