Got up early again today,,,,3:50. Dumped the condesate and started the dehumidifier AND ran the window unit for about 45 min. I am runnin the dehumid about every other day. If you don't remember about 2 yrs ago we had a small mold problem,(search my old posts for thr horror story),,,it was every where. Even on the sun visors. Inside the cabinetes. On all the leather but not the vynal. Temp was really nice(not),,,,,86 at 4;30 am. Spent 2 weeks cleaning that mess. Wonder if theres any houses for sale in Buena Vista?????? O-well,,,,back to the grind,,,,,,,PL

Paul,
As you know I store Double Trouble down in Humble, Texas where it's 99°F and
95% humidity during the summers.
It's guardian angel is John Sharpe who keeps his GMC at the same facility.
To keep everything from getting moldy I bought a dehumidifier from Sears
that has a hose connection and a cheap outdoor table from Wal-Mart that fits
on the engine cover between the front seats.
John set it all up and to get the hose connection higher than the drivers
side sliding window he sat it up on a couple of two by fours and a piece of
3/4" plywood.
The hose runs out the drivers window and drains outside the storage garage.
The area above the hose is taped closed with duct tape.
It is on 24/7, I can't remember the settings, maybe John can fill us in.
All the cupboards and closets are left open. I've done this for the past
couple of years and not one bit of mold.

Has anyone tried using the marine stuff that West Marine sells to keep the mold down in boats? It comes in tubs and is supposed to work pretty well, though I have no experience with it.
I'd love to find a good way to keep mold down both in the coach as well as in my cottage in Wisconsin, as both are closed up way too much of the time.

Rob,,,,I thought about a timer so it would not run all the time and setting it in the tub. A fan hooked to the timer to circulate the air,,,maybe two small ones. Water drains into grey,,,and runs onto ground or elseware. Could keep it closed up that way(thats if i were to keep it outside). My window unit blows right into the kitchen window and the dehum. is on the floor outside. Keeps the whole garage cool and dry. No more mold/nitemares. The year it molded was the highest rain fall ever recorded in st. L..,,,PL

Paul,
The Sears dehumidifier has a fan built in it and even though it sits all the
way up front it circulates the air enough as the clothes in overhead
cabinets down the back don't get moldy.
It has a control that you can set to control the humidity levels in the
coach. If you don't set it to the max it turns itself on and off as needed.
The first year John set it up on the galley counter and it drained into the
sink, it worked OK but then we got to thinking and realized if there was a
REALLY hard freeze it could freeze and crack the "S" trap.
I'm a bit confused by your setup, are you saying that you have a window in
your garage that has an a/c in it and the output blows into the open kitchen
window of the GMC?
If that is correct you actually have two dehumidifying units, that really
will keep the garage humidity levels in check.
By the way when we lived in Hong Kong (also 99° F and 95% H). It was a four
level house, living room, up a small flight of stairs to the dining room /
kitchen / toilet, up a small flight of stars to the master bedroom /
ensuite, up a small flight of stairs to the guest bedrooms / bathroom. Each
bedroom had a wall A/C unit, the dining room had a wall A/C unit, and the
living room had a wall A/C unit. There was a dehumidifier on each level as
well. To keep the place cool we ran the A/C unit in one of the guest
bedrooms (we used it as an office) 24/7. The dehumidifiers all ran 24/7 and
drained outside the house. I also had two dehumidifiers in the garage to
keep all my tools from turning to rust and they ran 24/7 too. The
dehumidifiers were made by GE and ran for the entire period we lived in Hong
Kong (1991-1999). I sold all but one when I got to Sydney and it still
works!
