i plan to add second 2 inch receiver to coach for my grill, present hitch is welded so i assume i will weld other one on also. so welding questions came up.
will my 6k ginny run a 110 wire fed flux core welder to spot unit on, otherwise i need long extension card.
aslo related, any precautions reference to disconnection battery grounds or anythings else as not to creat new problems, plan is to tack on for fit and placement, then have someone with proper stick welder make permmenate
all input is appreciated, grill is approx 30 lbs and swing arm adds another 25 or so.
thanks brian

Brian,

1) The 6K will run the welder but you have to consider if you have a circuit
breaker that will take the load. Not sure if the Onan has a direct plug in.
I don't think a 15 amp breaker will carry the welder load but you could try.
Worst case you would blow the breaker.

2) This is a tricky question. I would disconnect both the POS and NEG side
of all batteries for both engine and house. I would totally remove the ECM
if you have fuel injection. I'm not sure what a high freq MIG spike would do
to the electronics on the Onan though when it was running to power the
welder.

Someone else hopefully will have some thoughts,

Thanks

Run Miller welders with ONAN engines and Kohler engines. Not bothered by
mig. Depending on which mig machine you have, you might get by on a 15 amp
breaker. Disconnect coach batteries, and make sure the welder ground cable
is on the piece you are welding onto the frame. If you are really anal about
protection of the coach electronics, take engine alternator wires off also.
If you are fool injected, for sure unplug the computer harness as well.
JWIWD.
Jim Hupy, ( I weld on GMCs on occasion, and that is what I do, never any
follow up problems yet.)

As others have mentioned, The 15 amp breaker might be a problem.

I notice you have a GM upfitted coach. (75 eleganza 2) It should have a plug, with full generator power, in the power cord compartment.

I would make an adapter and plug the welder directly into that point. 6000 watts enough for your welder?
