Michael,

I had knee surgery three years ago, replaced the knee. I had two days of rehab at the hospital with an ex Marine Drill Sargent (I think). The Doctor set me up at home with a lady rehab specialist twice a week and a nurse one day. The first week I walked with a walker, second week with a cane and the third week with no help. The secret is to do the exercises they make you go through two or three times a day in addition to the ones they supervise. After the third week the my surgeon took me off rehab and said I was OK. After the third week my knee had 125 degrees rotation.

To show what can happen if you don't get the exercises, we had one lady in our club that had heart stoppage on the operating table and they put her in intensive care for a week without any exercises and 6 months later she still couldn't straighten her leg out. I had told her the operation was a piece of cake and she really let me have it when we next met. Just do the exercises as much as you can and it won't take long to get well.
