My black tank was leaking at level sensor. It had a
tube of caulking around the hole. Cleaned everthing and
now I have 2 5/8 inch hole. I have a new sender.
How do I make a new adapter?

Mike,

We may need a picture to understand what you are doing.

Did you buy a direct replacement sender or are you going with the well nuts? Some who have gone with the well nuts found a tank wash out system at the local rv dealer which fit the old sender hole.

Mike,

Here is a photo of my black tank -- the original sender cleaned and reinstalled.
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=34279&title=0084&cat=4620

And here is the replacement sender that JimK sells...it looks to me like a direct bolt up.. is your replacement a different style?

Any help?

Mike,

Sorry the photos did not offer more help -- it seems I have never seen such an adapter.

First I would call JimK and ask what they use.

If he doesn't provide them -- it sounds like it is just a large washer with the mounting holes drilled.
To make one I would use 1/16 inch aluminum -- you can rough cut with a hack saw and then file to final shape. Drill a few holes and do the same for the inside -- or buy a hole saw for your drill that is close. Aluminum is pretty easy to work with -- and would not take long to fabricate even with only the file, hack and a drill.

Aluminum will likely corrode out pretty fast. Better to use plastic of some kind for an adapter. Buskirk used aluminum for one of the tanks on our stretch and it started leaking soon after we got it - corroded full of holes.

I took mine apart and fixed it twice. It is easier for me if I just empty at three days or watch the water level in the P-trap in the shower. If it starts to rise you are completly full..

Laughing That happened twice to us. After second time I knew something had to be done. Since I fixed so we get the gray water seperated from the black, we never fill the black tank anymore.
That will get your attention. Teri learned no more long showers when I made her help me dump it in the rain.

This post triggered one of the billion or so rv questions I have. I know
black tank protocol, but what's the scoop on gray water disposal? Can it
go to any needy tree or patch of grass along a back road? I intend to
run 2 tanks because if the boss has to "wash her feet quick" as
previously mentioned, my GMC days are DONE. I know the gray tank will
need more frequent emptying than the black. Thanks

Be careful doing this. The law will vary from state to state. However I know in California that it has been illegal to dump gray water for over 30 years. Years back people used to use a "leaky bucket" at campsites and put their gray water hose into it. But even dish soap in water is considered a polllutant in many places. If you are camping in a tent you can't even dump your dishwater onto the ground.

In Florida the FDOH seems to treat spilled dishwater much the same way as one would handle radioactive waste.

So you had better check the laws of the state that you travel in or you could be subject to some very hefty fines.
