Just installed new headers. Oil cooler lines very close, almost touching. What is the common remedy? I considered using elbows at the oil filter end to point them downward. Thanks.

What engine and headers do you have? On my 455 with Thorley headers, I don't remember there being any real problem, but that's only my experience.

RD, if the oil lines are below the headers, that is a little bit better, but
they and the speedometer cable should be protected with nomex or other heat
insulation. My 403 melted the speedometer cable, and I put a longer one on
that gave more clearance. I also have Thorley headers. Some people fabricate
heat shields from sheet aluminum and mount them on standoff struts to
isolate the oil lines. Fire under the hood of a GMC is not anything that you
want to experience first hand. I am working on a customer coach right now
that experienced a dead short from the front post positive battery cable to
the park/turn bulb socket. Burned off all the grounds and melted the harness
from the fuse block to both sides of the headlight wiring harness. Could
easily have burned the coach to the lugnuts. Owner was very, very lucky.
Battery tray failed from corrosion, allowing the battery to tip forward.
Sometimes it is the little stuff that causes big problems.
