We need someone to build and distribute these two "Belt Tension Devices"

I think the would remove about 50% of the -alternator and AC compressor-
belt problems.

for the AC, someone could model this one by ChuckA
http://www.gmcmotorhome.info/heat.html#BELT

for the alternator , someone could copy this one found by PaulW

http://goo.gl/8qARW<http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=39732&title=belt-tensioning-made-easy-&cat=5562>

There are 7,000 of us out here who need these two adjuster's.

If you sell these, it will get you a cool parking spot at the rally's (
vendor site) , we call these "signature products"

give it some thought

I have the ability, but does Chuck want to build them, or Paul? How many
guys would be interested in having one or both? Between repairing GMCs for
others and the tools that I already build, I am busier than I really want to
be.

I will make a few for SOOR and bring them along with some other stuff. When
I tried to access the alternator pix, I got an error message. Is the link
correct?

There is a guy named "Rodney Dickman" who is a parts maker for the
Fiero, the 2 seater mid engine car from the eighties. He makes many
one off specialty parts for that car, maybe he could make them for us
and sell them.
www.rodneydickman.com is his business website

Is the alternator still cinched down by a bolt on the back-side of the slotted arm? I have a buddy with a machine shop that could probably knock out dozens of these.

I just noticed that Jim Hupy will make these - good news!

Billy - don't ever bother with the power steering pump again. Buy the double pulley, push the PS pump all the way out and adjust the tension from the alternator with Jim's new tensioner! Maybe Jim K can put together a package - Double Pulley, Tensioner, and Matched Belts.

I think we need a fund-raiser for the GMC Net, or something!

He just found this one in a wrecking yard.

Actually it's just the stock bracket that I fitted adjusting screw parts from the wrecking yard to. If you can drill a hole than you can make it yourself. You just need to get the right pieces from a donor bracket at your local bone yard.I plan on posting some follow up pics and info later this week.

these aren't quite the magic bullet that they appear. i've had cars with these in the past and the adjusting nut is bad about galling and rusting to the threads. they have to be maintained to work properly. i have no problem using a pry bar for both units although i admit it takes a friend to tighten the nuts.

G'day,

I had asked John Sharpe to send me some pictures of the one he has for the
alternator with some measurements so I could make some for the guys
Downunder.

Fred,

Good point, do you reckon it would help if the bolt was made of stainless
steel and the parts they thread through were made of brass?
