Lots of interesting discussion, but.... 7 years old doesn't seem to me to be old-old, just old. Should you automatically throw away a 7-year-old tire? And that brings up a question that I don't remember being discussed, and that is how to inspect the tire in order to predict impendin doom. I've still got a couple of old tires on mine (well, even the newer ones aren't all that new :-(. I inspect them pretty often, certainly before each trip, and look for cracks mostly at the edge of the belt. The one that had what I thought were suspicious cracks started to make noise and it felt like it was going out of round. Sure enough, when I got back home (not too far) it was showing a bulge in the belt area and the cracks had gotten much bigger. So that was a "save". Is there a good way to inspect the tires?

'73 23' still with 2 16.5's (anybody got a couple of Alcoa's?)
From Ken:
Maybe so, but I'll bet Stick Miller won't agree. Two weeks ago he was
ready to replace two of his tires. We checked the date codes on all
his tires and chose the oldest, dated 2004 (20th week of 2004) for
scrapping. Last week he took the coach on a trip and threw the tread
of the passenger side rear tire. Which turned out to be THAT tire!
The dealer scrapped a newer tire and left that one, which I personally
heard Stick tell him to discard, on the coach.
In a way, Stick was lucky: He was able to stop with air still in the
tire so it did only minor damage to his fender flare, the LPG
compartment door, and the air bag, which was apparently punctured in
at least two places by the thrown steel belt.

That is a tough decision with lots of tread and a not so fat bank balance. My tires were that age but worn enough to think it was about time. They had no cracks since the coach lives in a comfortable garage . Several years ago I had( 2 )10 year old Michelin tires literally just blow up. One was on the spare and the 2 nd one was behind a piece of plywood. I always seem to start having problems at around 7 or 8 years. I think it has to do with the strength of the cords kind of like old fishing line as it ages it isn't as strong. We keep hoping the tire manufactures come up with better materials. The tires on my street rods are older then 10 years but they aren't near as heavy as the GMC and I don't drive them far so I just run them.

this comes up every 15 seconds on this list.
It is not the cost of new tires that counts
it is the cost of the damage caused when they explode
there is no final answer on when they are too old
most buy 2 new tires each year, to stay fresh
if you are feeling lucky - do what you want

Michelin says after to replace tires after 10 years of RV service. Someone here reached into a hat and grabbed a magic number of 5 years. So you go do whatever you think is best. Every time someone has a tire problem it is blamed on age. It never is I ran over a nail and ran it low, or I ran it out of line an scuffed it down to the belt, or I hit a hole and broke a belt, or I let it sit all year and did not check the pressure.
It is always always the tire was too old. Michelin tells you what to look for when inspecting a tire. Go to their web site and look for RV tires.
I just replaced the original Bridgestone tires on my 1979 Honda motorcycle and 1985 Honda scooter this year. I think they must use different materials for motorcycle tires because none for them rotted and fell off after 5 years. (TIC)

No.
If they still look good replace them at 6 years and sell them to someone with a high wear but less demanding (weight wise) application. You also should save on "tire disposal" fees.
Put them on Craigslist.
I would expect for them to sell easier in sets of four.
