[GMCnet] Top 10 Reasons for Buying a Diesel Pusher [message #133888] |

In response to recent thoughts published to this austere group by Rob and
Dan, I offer the following.
Top 10 Reasons for Buying a Diesel Pusher
10. It was the easiest way of getting a Cummins without having to buy a
Dodge pickup.
9. My wife wanted me to be able to shower without getting everything else
in the bathroom wet.
8. I wanted to see what it was like to take up the whole RV lane when
refueling at the Flying J.
7. The experience of being in the truck lanes of Pilot was too alluring.
6. I like the idea of being able to line dance in the motorhome without
bumping into the dinette or the couch.
5. During the next tire wars fight on the GMCnet I can say "mine cost four
times what yours cost".
4. I wanted to see what it was like to have storage space that wasn't being
used for something else already.
3. It was a way of avoiding ethanol.
2. Being talked about at GMC rallies had an irresistible level of appeal.
And the number one reason is:
1. It's a way of "flipping the bird" to my former GMC friends without ever
lifting a finger.

Since you went there Serge:
10. Many pushers do not cost anywhere near that. Not all are purchased new
either, just like GMCs.
9. Not all pushers have slide outs, just like GMCs.
8. Can't respond to that as I have never encountered a bridge the pusher
wouldn't fit under.
7. Can't respond to that as I have never encountered a bridge that I
couldn't proceed across.
6. A new set of tires for a GMC often costs more than many have paid for
their GMCs. (My last set went 106,000 miles.)
Yours?
5. Can't argue that one, especially here in CA where diesel is 4.75/gal.
Oops, only cost me 475.00 for 100 gal., I guess I will argue that one
especially since I get 11.3 mpg while towing. And you?
4. 25 qts of Rotella plus $54.00 for a filter is only approx $100.00.
Oil changes every 8-10,000 miles. Your GMC?
3. $325.00 in AZ. Yours?
2. Good Sam emergency roadside assistance, just like many GMCers.
1. Like many GMCers, I don't do state parks. However, I do remember
that my GMC was not very welcome in Yellowstone.
Yes, to each his own. In the past two years we have put well over 40,000
miles on our pusher and we like the 50 gal BW tank, 50 Gal GW tank, and 100
gal FW tank. I especially enjoy the (smaller than GMC) turning radius of my
pusher and the nearly unlimited towing, and storage capacity. My wife
especially likes the icemaker and washer and dryer combo.
We're pretty happy with our decision and so far, we still enjoy the company
of our GMC motorhome friends.

Sorry Steve, I did not mean to ruffle any feathers, I have had both and have
friends that have both, each serve the purpose they were purchased for. We
were full timers in our diesel pusher, I would never attempt that in a GMC
although I know some people have and do. I was just responding in a fun way
and cost comparing way, nothing wrong with diesel pushers, I used ours and
had fun while we had it, and I like you was able to have many trouble free
miles, although I could also share some horror stories about others that
were not so lucky.
Enjoy your Diesel pusher and have fun, again forgive me if I offended anyone
that was not my intention.

Serge, we were out there in Jan of this year and the previous 3 Januaries. Just north of Lordsburg is where we winter. Anyway, The Jetsetters have rallies along 10 every winter so you can run over and visit. Seems the club gathers a time or two each winter in and around Benson.

I encountered a spot I couldn't fit under last year. It was a railroad
overpass. I was cutting across country and taking my chances on a gravel
road. If I could have dumped the air in the suspension and kept it out, I
could have gone under. But, since it was a gravel road in rural Illinois,
there was no traffic to worry about.
But, like Steve, I get 11.3 honest mpg while towing our Honda Accord.
The three-cylinder, water-cooled, 7.5KW Onan is more efficient than the 6KW
Onan in a GMC 260. The Kubota engine (which it really is) does a great job
grinding out 110.
I'm glad Steve left ride out of this rebuttal. That would start a range war.
I've enjoyed the humor and the tongue-in-cheek banter. Glad Serge admitted
he had an SOB.

Oops. I just thought of a few more.
4. To avoid arguments about tires on the ground and number of axles at toll
booths. (Two axles is cheaper than three even if it weights 10,000 more
pounds. I know, life just isn't fair.)
3. Icemaker in the freezer, walk-around queen for a bed and a washer/dryer.
Never leave home without them. (Steve beat me to part of the punch.)
2. No rear window on which to plaster signs or the kid that pees on stuff.
And the new, number one --
1. The opportunity to get the GMC Alumni t-shirt that says "Recovering
GMCer." (Actually, one doesn't exist ... yet.)
