We all know the Onan is (was) a beast and very reliable. however, with
all the problems many seem to be having, is there a
suitable alternative to the venerable Onan, like a Honda/, generac/
domestic or something similar? Same output maybe a new lighter weight
generator?
(Just throwing out a question - I am full of questions about the GMC. lol

Sammy,
The Honda is no longer being manufactured, however, there was an email sent
in to the GMCnet that a company was buying them up, refurbishing them, and
reselling them.

Honda model EV6010 fits nicely in the gen hole on the 26' GMC. Unfortunately, Honda discontinued it. There is a company in Florida, that is refurbishing them. Google it.
Sure wish that I had one.

Before you leap, look here for comments on the EV6010!
LOTS of highly unfavorable/uncomplimentary reviews !

I note that one responder brags about his Onan "Power Drawer!"

Though I haven't owned it all that long, I installed a Generac Prime-Pac 50 in my coach when I replaced the old Onan. It fits nicely, and has all the controls right up front for easy maintanace. We had a power outage after a storm recently, and it ran and powered critical circuits at my home for 48 hours straight with no issues. I have since fabricated an extension cord that allows me to plug into the electrical box on the side of the coach and have 2 20 amp 120 volt circuits to use in an emergency.
BTW, Miguel Mendez was a great help in giving me hints on the installation and has a done a bunch of these. If you can find a Honda, they are supposed to be great generators, but I think the Generac is a reasonable alternative.
