Thanks all, some great stuff. With all the railroads here in Portland a short section of rail should be easy. Dan, car is a Honda Accord wagon, about 3200#. I have most of an older SMI off Craigs List and can steal from Ken's ideas and come up with one that works.

I have personally used and have seen 20units Alex and Jeff sirunm have
installed the US Gear Unified brake system.
You do not need to drag a box around and play with the brake pedal
when hooking or unhooking it.
I can get one to you complete for around $900. List is 1290.
There will be situations where this simple set up will avoid frustration.
You can always get used ones and gamble.

We have the Brake Buddy. If, for some really odd reason, the car breaks free
from the coach, the brake unit will apply pressure and stop the car from
going off without the coach.
Aren't some states requiring a braking system if towing four down?

I found this site that has the States towing laws for RV in a very
good format. When reviewing them you will find that the ones that do
require braking for the towed for most the limit is more than 3000#.

The US Gear unit that Jim K sells is an awesome unit and works very
well and his price is hare to beat! I know a number of GMC'ers that
have it and are happy.
I have a system made my TowV Aire. I have it for almost 8 years and
it works great too1

That should read "Hard to beat" in the previous post.
As a general comment and JMHO! It makes no sense NOT to have a
breaking system on your tow unit. As many have said their coach and
tow stop better towing than when not towing. It only cost a little
bit less to do it right the first time than fixing the problem
afterwards.
