In an email exchange with the acting president of FMCA, Judy Czarsty, I got
the following response.

³When we got into motorhoming I drooled over those beautiful, low profile
GMCs which we couldn't afford.²

Well, that was then and this is now. She could probably afford one now. But,
the point is, hereıs a leader thatıs fully aware of that a classic GMC
MotorHome is. Personally, I think thatıs pretty neat. Of course, Iıd expect
any FMCA officer to be aware if they know much about motorhoming.

Judy was the FMCA VP for our area and was the guest of the GMC Tidewater Crabs many times as has the current VP. Yes, they do know GMC Motorhomes.

I trot out my stock answer to the (truly beautiful) 50 foot diesel pushers "Yours depreciated more last year than I paid for mine".  Based on what I see offered, it's now appreciating.  Gotta love it.

On those few occasions that I've scanned the FMCA magazine's list of upcoming gatherings I've never seen a GMC event listed.

Sorry you missed the few issues that one of the clubs does go to the trouble
of notifying the publisher. In general, they need information three to four
months in advance. I've seen Dixielanders in there and I've turned in for
GMC Eastern States.

Simple fact; they only know what they're told -- sorta reminds you of some
humans.

Notifying FMCA of upcoming events is the job of your GMC club Secy or Pres. Call them and ask them to start putting such info in the FMCA mag so all will know. Would be great if all of our clubs did so on a regular basis. Then everyone would see first hand that GMC is the largest single mark in FMCA meaning there are more GMC owners represented within the ranks of FMCA than owners of any other single coach, yet we are now among the oldest of the active coaches out there.

I'm not trying to start an argument but I think a rumor needs to be cleared
up. I believe it's inaccurate to say that GMCers are the largest, single
group of owners in FMCA. While it is true there are more GMC clubs within
FMCA than any clubs dedicated to a particular brand it is not true that
there are more GMC owners than any other. When you consider that many of us
belong to more than one club one can't put all the members together and come
up with a grand total in excess of 4,000.

Freightliner Chassis Owners Club happens to have nearly 4,000 members. They
are just slightly larger than the Holiday Rambler group, which is also an
international club. Holiday Rambler also sponsor a company-run club that has
even more members but that organization isn't a part of FMCA.

Watch for the GMC Eastern States rally info to be in the September issue of
Family Motor Coaching. It's the third time that I, as president, have
submitted rally information. If we planned further in advance the entry
could be in more monthly magazines.

GMCers are great. FMCA has great benefits. We have the best of both worlds.

By the way, Jerry, you do beautiful work. Makes me drool. Nice name for a
business, too.

Hi Byron,

Thanks for the kind words about my work.

I don't want to split hairs, but according to FMCA GMC is the larges single motorhome mark in the organization. There may be larger groups like the Freightliner chassis group or a broad umbrella for a group of coach brands, but not for a single coach brand if FMCA records are correct. Anyway, it is good to be recognized nationally as among the largest groups (if you prefer that designation) in FMCA and we certainly have a loud voice in FMCA affairs if our collective club members ever wish to exercise that voice.

Jerry,

Not trying to split hairs but trying to keep an accurate perspective. There
are more owners of other brands who are members of FMCA but, as we agree and
I said in my response, "there are more GMC clubs within FMCA than any of the
clubs dedicated to a particular brand." There aren't multiple Monaco,
Beaver, Safari, Thor, Winnebago, Bounder, etc. clubs. There are, however,
multiple GMC clubs. A whole bunch of FMCA clubs are regional clubs where no
brand is emphasized. The GMC community, in that respect, is very unique.

Because of the way FMCA is structured we do have the opportunity to be
louder voice via the FMCA National Directors each of our clubs have. Though
New York and Vermont are of different sizes, they each of two senators.
Since there are many more GMC clubs in FMCA, we have the greatest number of
brand-specific directors.

We need to make efforts to get to the FMCA gatherings. You can learn and see
stuff because it isn't all about big rigs. For instance: Towing, electrical
systems, the advantage of LED lighting, what to expect on the way to Alaska,
proper weight distribution, and other topics aren't unique to any brand or
any size.
