We're in a Walmart parking lot and a young gal just jumped
curb and smashed our front end. It looks like frame work
might be needed and we need some help in finding a shop
in this area to work on it. We're waiting for law enforcement now
and they don't seem to be in any hurry. If you have any ideas please
call me at 501 940 0223
thank you

JoAnne,

Understandably you're a bit distraught and you haven't mentioned where the
Walmart is.

Call your insurance provider. They will find it for you before they tow you.
We found Coachnet and Progressive to be very helpful

I don't know the laws in MN but in Texas the law would never show-up because it happened on private property. Sounds like you need to contact some locals on ROGER BLACK's ASSIST LIST.

Here they show up.  Eventually.  What you do is tell them there are five bodies and two walking wounded on the scene and they get there a bit quicker.

I sure hope everything is ok and the damage is not as bad as first thought. Hope they come back and let us know what is going on.

Does anyone have any pictures of the frame where the
steering box bolts to it? It looks like the frame is
bent where the steering box bolts up.
Thanks

First folks to call should be your insurance company
and ask them to send an investigator ASAP. Probably
won't happen, but it's worth a try!

I lived in Minnesota for 20+ years. One of my teens was driving in the high
school parking lot when another teen t-boned her and totaled the car.
Turned out that each party was responsible for only their own damage,
whatever their insurance company would pay to them minus the deductible, not
very fair when one of the parties is clearly at fault. Wonder if this is
still the law and whether it applies to Wal-Mart parking lots?

Hi Bill, hi JoAnne,
I just went out and snapped some pics for you of 'naked' Scruffy. Let me know if there's any other angle or such you need - obviously I have a pretty clear slate to work from with nothing else in the way.

Most accidents in parking lots are not assigned fault. Parking lots are generally uncntrolled areas where you drive around freely and are only responsible to avoid hitting the other party. About the only exception might be that you blow thru a stop sign but usually it is mutual fault in a parking lot and almost never one persons fault.

Thanks Gord, the pics will help us determine possible damage.

We have been towed by a very careful and reasonable tow service
Woodys towing, with dollys.
We are at Custom Trucks, they do large trucks and vans, we were told they were OLD SCHOOL, in this case that is good.
They will start work in the AM.
Will now try to post some photos.

Joanne/Bill

Glad to know you were not injured. Hopefully the steering was not damaged -- with the shock it appears to have taken I can understand your concern.

Hi Bill, hi JoAnne,
A pleasure - no problem at all. Wink

I looked at your pictures - using my super GM savvy Laughing I think all's good with the frame and the steering gear. "just a flesh wound" so to say handled by the bumper and its springs.

If the bumper is removed (it's done its job), I'm sure things will look a whole lot better, and you could then do a lock-to-lock check of the steering and include thought that the tire needs some vertical movement without getting cut by anything sharp.

imo, if they can't bend the bumper back sort of straight, just remove it and get the 'glass out of the way. If the steering gear looks untouched and its bolts are still tight (and of course it goes back and forth), I wouldn't hesitate to get back on the road using a bit of the handyman's secret weapon (duct tape) as required.

Best wishes,

Gord

G'day,

I noticed in one of your photos that your driver compartment supports are
solid (not a tube tripod) and checked your profile on the Forum which notes
your GMC is a '77 Kingsley.

I examined your photos and it appears that front cross member (the one with
the BIG holes in it) appears to be straight.

It appears that the brunt of the impact was absorbed by the "X" shaped
bumper mount on the drivers side. It appears to be bent outwards.

The pictures of the Subaru show minor damage.

IMHO the damage to your GMC is cosmetic.

I reckon JimB or JimK can supply the parts you need no problem.
