While under the coach adjusting the fan belts I noticed that one of the CV
boots, drivers side was split. There was grease everywhere.
Is this something a do it yourselfer can tackle or do is it off to see
Miguel? I figure I may as well do both sides while I am at it.
Cheers,

I agree with what your saying, but I know if I have some info as to
when it was done last at the same, I would lean towards doing it when
I'm in the home territory..
I'm sure you do not want to stop to get it fixed on the road.

Len,
Actually I think it's a good idea to do both of them, in fact I'd
disassemble and clean the inners too!
That way you'll know when it was done and that it was done properly!
Lubricate them with Synpower you'll probably never have to mess with them
again.

Being an old Vw guy
A tight boot is a good boot
Never change a good boot
More problems are created by replacing them than leaving them alone

Should we be using the provided grease which I think is from CRC, or the Green Saginaw OEM stuff that Cinnabar says is the only one to use, or like Rob says go with Synpower. So confused.

Len,
You CAN do it. This might help:

If one's in good condition, why touch it?

If it's just a boot, then you can do that yourself, and it's a good
opportunity to look closely at other things in the neighborhood.
When I had the same problem, though, I found other issues, and those aren't
always as easy to address. I had two broken ball joints, and a hub that had
spun its bearing. If all those other things are freshly checked, then just
pull out the axle and do the boot. But if their history is as much a mystery
as the boots, then you might end up with a bigger project than anticipated.
All of this is doable, but you may end up having to install a front wheel
bearing, or replace a ball joint. My quick attempt at replacing the boot
took several weeks.
