Living in the o.c. (CAL)near Disneyland and want to take the GMC to Portland area (actually McMinnville, Or. Trying to decide if I should go over the grapevine and up highway 5 through Shasta or if heading over to the coast above Frisco and taking the 101 would be a better way to go?
Any suggestions?

Done both up to the San Francisco Bay Area. It depends on how big a hurry you are in. I-5 really is faster and the Grapevine was no problem for us. I have 4.55:1 (I think) gears.
101 is a great meander with tons of excuses to stop.
